Ever wondered what would happen if a nuke detonated in a city near you?
NukeMap lets you choose a site- say the nearby nuclear submarine base in Groton, Connecticut in my case- set parameters such as strength of the bomb in kilotons, air or ground burst, and then detonate it.
The created map then shows the fireball radius, airblast radius, areas of radiation, thermal burns and even a theoretical fallout projection.
Here's a 100 kiloton ground burst at the sub base in Groton, Connecticut:
Here's a 1 megaton ground burst:
Being east of the base, I would largely escape the immediate effects, such as 3rd degree burns, from the 100 kiloton blast, but not the 1 megaton blast.
Just for fun, see what would happen if Kim Jong Un sent a Christmas gift to your neighborhood.
