Hi all - its been a while but I'm dusting off my WOFF setup and FreeTrack appears to be dead, at least the download link wasn't working this morning. So wondering what people are using for head tracking these days? Are there any reasonable alternatives to TrackIR?

Thanks

FaceTrackNoIR may work, I had a quicky go some time ago, although had to disable the little joystick devices it installed as they interfered with controls..

Good Guestion !! My Track!R is not as good as it was some time ago, and of course this 82 year old " gezzer" has been left behind the
up dates and knew ways to improve the game.

I have yet to see a small scale air to air contest in the last several years ( when a few of us went head to head for a month or so ) !

I live in Scottsdale Az , and have yet to find any computer helpers that understand Track!R and our game. So, ! just hack along the best
I can.

Hey CW3SF, I think it's awesome that you're still flying this game @ 82, congrats! I did a fair bit of optimizing of TrackIR for WOFF and I created a guide for it here

Hope that helps you some.

There are accelerometer based units like this:

that you can buy or build yourself. I have been interested in them for a while but have not had time to get into it...

CW3SF, what are the problems you are having with trackir? Maybe I could do a video to help? HarryH's guide looks really good as well...

Yes, FaceTrackNoir does work. I had it for a little while some time ago (and actually hooked in the Xbox-360 motion tracker camera on my computer - it worked really well, believe it or not, lol). It was initially really great (used it for this, IL2-1946, IL2-GBS), but the wow factor wore off for me. In the end, it felt unnatural and awkward with small head moments needing to represent larger ones on screen (yes, I know you can adjust sensitivity etc, and I know Track-IR would be way better). But I think I fit in the minority of actually preferring to set up and use the good old joystick hat for head panning - and I use that instead.

Redwolf's comment brings up a question for me: Is it just me, or did WOFF UE click between views when using the hat, and snap back to front-and-center when released, and WOFF PE pans smoothly with the hat and stays where you leave it? Or has it always been this way? Whatever the answer, I like it. If I can lock the view onto my target and release it again, I too can live the the hat system.

We didn't change the scrolling but "scroll lock" key will toggle between those states.

Hi CW3SF, many thanks but it will be easier for you to just buy PE from the store page, you get the download link to download PE. Once you have downloaded, you just need to open the downloaded zip and preferably copy the files inside to a temp folder, then run the install program from there. Easy.
After that then download the 5.04 from the WOFF PE downloads page and again just unzip and run the installer to put 5.04 on.
