Just got back from seeing it. Maybe it's just my mood, or maybe I've stopped being in denial, but I was very disappointed and underwhelmed by this one. I blame JJ Abrams, for being JJ Abrams in making this movie.

I'll stick with my original 3. I think I'd rather forget the rest. And keep my happy childhood in the Star Wars universe intact.

I'll sleep on it now and see if I feel better about it in the morning.

I'll be seeing it on Saturday. Everyone has their own opinion of course but it seems right now the film critic reviews have been extremely mixed.

I'll post the same here then smile We liked it, it's not a rant worthy film one way or the other imo. Had some great cinematic scenes, cool light sabre duels, Palpatine was sweet.

Agreed. I thought it was entertaining as a movie, but as a Star Wars story it was garbage..

Saw it yesterday, and really enjoyed it. It felt like it had the classic Star Wars elements, and was fun.

We saw it today.

My kids loved it.

Me, as one of those kids who saw the original 1977 film in theaters and it changed my life,

all I can say is

EF U Disney!!

EF U Lucas!!

To me there will always be ONLY 3 Star Wars films:

Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, all of them in their original version that were shown in theaters in 1977, 1980 and 1983.

Not the ones that Lucas trinkled with over and over with each subsequent video release starting first on VHS and then on DVD.

Maybe when my kids get older I will teach them why there are only 3 Star Wars films and the rest are trash.

Saw it today and really liked it! You can tell they're trying to "right" some of the things fans didn't like about the last movie, I don't know if that's wise or not, but it was well done.
I avoided all trailers so it was all fresh for me. Enjoyable surprises, good story, good action, some very sad moments. Far better than TLJ.
My wife and I built up to it watching Rogue One, Solo and Eps 3-8 over the last couple of weeks, so we were ready for it. LOL

Just got back from seeing it and I just don’t understand the complaints from many of the critics and fans. This movie had its fair share of cheesy scenes and dialogue just like all other SW movies. In other words, there is no reinventing the wheel here. It has everything you would expect in a Star Wars movie.

I sometimes wonder if some critics are suddenly expecting Star Wars to be intellectually profound like Blade Runner and 2001?

I already did. Started my daughter on the despecialized versions of the original trilogy when she was four. I raised her up right.

There are no other Star Wars movies to her.

My son is 23 now and engaged to be married with girl a year older with a 2.5 year old son.
He refuses to go see any Star Wars done by Disney. Refuses to taint the memory of what
Lucas did for the films.

He was raised on the old films. It was his life from year 4 on. Couple tough years in grade school
when he could not take it to school since he lived it.The star Wars dream.

All this talk about childhood dreams and nostalgia seems to confirm to me that the age of the viewer is quite a bit factor when it comes to how the Disney Star War movies are perceived.

I liked The Force Awakens, hated The Last Jedi and loved this last one. I felt the same things with this film that I did when I was 14 and watching the originals in the theater. Those feelings were completely absent in Episodes 1-3.

J.J. had the impossible task of ending the entire saga while repairing what Rian Johnson had done. The Rise of Skywalker wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it thoroughly and am relieved.

My best regards to those who were disappointed. It stinks when something so anticipated doesn't meet your expectations.

May the Force be with you.

as i said in the other thread this is star wars for a new generation, get over it, the only peeve is they should had treated the old gang better if they used them for nostalgia tickets. teenagers seem to like it, face it man, they need to impress youngerster like you once were with the franchise or its dead on the water. wich is why im okay with the new ghosbusters but not the female failed reboot. i may end up not liking the new ghostbusters movie but i understand why they are doing it.
i always though star wars was a silly childish movie, i only liked han solo and chewie, also i though vader was cool as kid untill they gave him a lame origin in prequels, now vader is the same guy as that huge helmet parody to me.

you still have your classics and now that disney owns fox, you can bet they will milk the original movies fans have begged to be released for years but they couldnt due to fox owning the prints.

I don’t often agree with Blade but his latest post is 100% on the mark.

The prequels and the sequels are what happens when the original author doesn't write the ancillary pair or trilogies after finishing the first. Wait 20 - 30 years and this is what happens. Lesson learned I hope by all authors out there.

I've seen them all in the theater at release (and at re-release), so I don't agree with it being *made for* a younger generation, but they certainly do need to include them to continue to build the audience. They did well IMO including the original cast while keep it fresh with new faces.
