Never gonna happen. There is too much money spent making movies of this scale. Going to VOD is financial suicide.
+1 It's one thing for low to mid budget movies to transition to a streaming service but films with a budget over 150 million HAVE to take advantage of a theatrical release if they want to make a profit. Even companies with very deep pockets like Apple and Disney would most likely balk at paying more than 150 million to have exclusive streaming rights for any film.

Saw Top Gun Maverick yesterday.
Excellent! It was a digital special screening, no XD, 3D, IMAX, nada.
Going back to see it again this coming Saturday in IMAX. It's worth the $27.50. Wow! £9.95 to see it in IMAX here, that's $12.50 ...

Wow! £9.95 to see it in IMAX here, that's $12.50 ... I'm surprised IMAX tickets are that cheap in the UK. Maybe it's a special promotion to get people back in movie theaters?

Wow! £9.95 to see it in IMAX here, that's $12.50 ... I'm surprised IMAX tickets are that cheap in the UK. Maybe it's a special promotion to get people back in movie theaters? It varies, e.g. central London is going to be much dearer, but the next nearest one to the one that I am booked at is ~$21, the next nearest after that is actually fractionally cheaper, ~ $11.90. The 2 cheaper ones are independent theatres, the dearer one is an Odeon (subsidiary of AMC Entertainment) ... a possible trend? Having checked their other main competing chain (Cineworld) ~$20 for IMAX seems the norm for the 2 large chains in most of the UK .

, nonsense but brilliant. So just like the original film. LOL Well, in the original film, the F-14 was the Star and Tom Cruise was the co-star. In the new one, Tom Cruise is pretty much not only the star but the ONLY character. It was what it was and I didn't expect much more. Highlight of the film for me was one of the pilots reporting "Lasing on 1688" Gotta love the TPOD defaults. All the scenes of running in for the GBU drop, the HUD symbology was all wrong...or maybe it was in MAN mode which I never use. Looked to me like it was NAV mode all the time though it was only on the screen for a short time so maybe I'm wrong. USE THE FORCE, ROOSTER!

well, Top Gun Maverick was, imo, quite a different film from the original &, again imo, worth seeing particularly on a large screen. Somehow, I doubt that it will become the cult film that the original is/was though. Aviation/scifi nerds will have eye rolls at some point but leave that behind, let it wash over you & enjoy it for what it is (oh, also Jennifer Connelly ).

I saw it yesterday, and I'd give it a rating of 7 or 8 out of 10. I was actually never really "into" the first one, I just liked the flying scenes and the music. I think I only saw it once in the theater, and that might be the only time I watched it from beginning to end. I've watched bits and pieces - flying scenes mostly - from time to time, but that's it.
I didn't get as caught up in this movie as I did, say, The Dark Knight, or even Rogue One, but it was enjoyable, and while movies always have to simplify and dramaticize things, I was impressed with how well they handled the aviation tech overall. Far from perfect, but better than most movies. Probably because Tom Cruise has become an experienced pilot since the first one. And there were clearly scenes with CGI aircraft, possibly good models mixed with CGI but most likely CGI for the most part, and I thought they looked really good. CGI can be used well if not made to look over the top like Red Tails, Peal Harbor or even Midway (which was pretty historically accurate from a story-telling standpoint).
One of the things that bugged me is that there's a part of it that I think is too much like another movie, but I won't go into detail to avoid spoilers. EDIT: it's what is mentioned in the Critical Drinker's video.
