I had something similar happen by accident in a Huey over Germany back in the early 80s. We were trying to drop a communication cable to a teletype unit stationed on a mountain top, and a wind shear caught us by surprise. The next thing I know we're descending sideways down the mountain with treetops flying by just outside my window. We managed to get the nose turned and pointed down a side valley, and pulled out barely above the wheat fields at the base of the mountain. Needless to say the cable ended up eventually getting delivered to them by truck.

Nice video MikelDaxton. That looks like a fun scenery to fly around in. Sounds like a scary situation MajorMagee. Was everyone quiet for awhile after that or were words spoken once in the clear?

There were some pretty sharp, but professional, words spoken while we were trying to recover control. After that we just cursed the orders to make the attempt in the first place and went home.

During another incident the ceiling was down to the treetops and a Chinook tried to take our blade off with it's wheels as we were dropping down into our LZ in the middle of a small forest. The pilot started laughing about the near miss, and unlike the other incident I really did not appreciate his attitude...
