Disney doesn't want to do it because the execs already know this will be a box office flop and not necessarily because it would be "female led" but because the Pirates franchise is worn out creatively. It has already overstayed its welcome with audiences.

The only way Disney could do a new pirate movie is an with entirely new characters and premise. Alas, there was the TV show "Black Sails," but they performed the biggest dupe in history with turning Captain Flint into something he never was(you can guess) mid-way through season 2. Was so awful and woke I quit watching. Shame, too, because the show was rather good, otherwise, as far as pirate fare goes. Unfortunately the whole incident reminded me of my college days with an English professor and I'll have none of that.

I'll wait to see it at home. I never understood all the hype with Avatar. It's a decent movie but there's absolutely nothing special about it to me.

Now that you mention it, I do recall that 2008-2009 was the height of the 3D craze so Avatar definitely came out at the right time to capitalize on that. That craze died out a long time ago though!

While two additional sequels are planned, their release is dependent on the success of the second and third films.

Avatar 4 (2026)

A fourth film is planned for December 18, 2026, Jon Landau said that a third of Avatar 4 has already been filmed. Despite this, it was announced at the D23 Expo on September 9, 2022, that principal photography had officially begun for Avatar 4.

Avatar 5 (2028)

A fifth and final film has been announced and is scheduled for December 22, 2028 and has not started to be filmed but has started pre-production.

Yes and if Avatar 2 loses money at the box office I guarantee you that Disney will put the the rest of the films exclusively on streaming.

Keep in mind that Bob Iger is back as CEO and he's out to clean house to make sure DIsney stock is back on track.
