So, I read the manual again, and I can't find out anything about how to best use VR. I have a few other flight simulator "games," by they all use the handsets as controls. I don't see how that could be effective in a simulation like this given the complexity of modern HOTAS layouts. I'm using an oculus rift S, and it works fine with DCS. But you do need to put the handsets down when you're flying; which means you can't push buttons. And occasionally I need to go off goggles in order to hit a keyboard button for a command that's not an aircraft system.

I feel like someone has likely cracked this nut...I just don't really know where to look for the solution. And ideas would be appreciated.

handsets? Are you talking about the Oculus controllers?

As great as they are for other titles, they're not really the tools for playing a complex flight sim (or in DCS's case, an unfinished screenshot generator). You really need to be looking at a flight HOTAS to get the most out of it simply because the bulk of the most frequent commands can be mapped to the buttons/rotaries switches and axis.

I have a HOTAS stick and throttle, and they work great for flying. The problem is that there is no good way to map all the switches, so you need to use the controllers to manipulate most of the switches and dials.

Once airborne, how many switches and dials are actually moved often enough that are not mapped to a warthog throttle and stick?

If a simmer invests in a pair of thrustmaster MFD's will the controllers actually be of any use?

You can't fly and use controllers anyway. while holding stick and throttle.

Having MFDs won't be very immersive either if you need to peak below your VR headseat to press buttons.

I gave up on it. It looks nice, but I had to give up. The game uses too many keyboard commands.

Gave up on what exactly? VR or DCS?

Is there a way to load a virtual pilot into the F14 in VR? Tried the standard key combo but no joy.

Cheers

Paul
