Video link at end...

So I've had this problem for decades. Had "surgery" several times over it.

I just got this tool yesterday, and the results were instant. I'm "wearing" it right now despite not being in pain, it's going to be my nail re-shaping regimen...

I'm doing it my own way - I don't have a hair dryer, and the whole soaking thing is too inconvenient. I just put it on and VERY gradually increase the tension every few minutes and let it sit there...

I got it from some site called "banggood" for 3 bucks and with shipping it came to like 5 bucks.

Best 5 bucks I've ever spent in my life...

I was plagued with the #%&*$# things all my adult life. Eventually opted for surgery on both toes. Never looked back.

I initially approached my Podiatrist and said my doctor did a surgery where they offered the service and that it would be free. He said would I go to the doctor to have a tooth removed? Fair point.

Expensive in the end but worth it. Now I can kick things with impunity.

That's a cool little tool. That looks like a painful condition. What does surgery do to prevent the toenail from growing down again?

Check out “The Toe Bro” on YouTube for the answer to that. Unless you’re squeamish, in which case I’d stay far, far away from the channel.

The "surgeries" I had involved numbing of the toe, then the podiatrist cutting a portion of the offending edge(s) straight down with a blade, then about a half inch down beyond the cuticle into the nail bed, then some chemical to prevent that portion from growing back. My personal experience was that kind of treatment lasts about ten years.

What I'm doing now with this tool - podiatrists seem to recommend against it. I get their point - one DEFINITELY could cause more harm than solution with this. One thing I noticed right away is this tool is easily capable of creating a tear in the side nail where it hooks in. Patience and self discipline required for sure - as in 30 minutes worth of that...

"Baby steps" is how you do this thing...

HAH! Never thought of that, but if you're playing certain sports I could see where that's important...

You and anyone else who's had this know well how even the slightest impact can literally bring you down in agony worse than hitting a normal toe at full force against something...

Anyway, not trying to make a huge popular thread here, but this tool has truly been a miracle for me, others mileage might vary, but just had to share...

Zamzow described the procedure exactly. The chemical they use is phenol, the procedure itself is called phenolisation.

My left toe was done at least 15 years ago,so far it's been perfect. Hopefully the right follows suite.

Not playing sports,it's just nice to kick things without having to hop around for 5 minutes screaming like a little girl biggrin

I’ve never had one as bad as posted above, but I have had, and still fend off, a nail issue. When it goes wrong, it seems to last months and months to live out. When that gets swollen and infected, it’s miserable. Toe pain suck! You depend on that big toe a lot more than you think until this goes wrong. LOL
I found some kind of ointment that basically softens the nail and eventually you can pull up the edge and file or something. Incredibly smelly, but worth it. That plus this tool would be a good combo.
