was made in 1991 : Crusader No Remorse

https://www.gog.com/game/crusader_no_remorse

I installed it on my XPS13 and it plays wonderfully well, I remember giving it a try some ten years ago using DOS BOX, but on a desktop it did not run that well, on a notebook it is much better, in size closer to the original experience.

I remember when and where I bought it, 28 years ago - amazing.

Strong endorsement. Downloading now (purchased the 2-game series for -$3.00).

I now have over 50 games in my only online game repository (although I also locally archive installs in duplicate). I'm happy to report that GOG still provides a direct 'offline download' link without requiring any service (Galaxy). Also, it detected that I was using an incompatible OS for the games (Linux) but no problem with downloading them (production PC is Win2k, gaming PC is WinXP with DOSBox).

Thanks for the heads up.

there are many games that don't age well, but this one did age well.

the AI is just right for what you expect in an old game by it following a fixed path, which only adds to the nostalgic feel of it.

Crusader had the funkiest PC controls in history. I played it recently and while awesome, the controls got in my way.

For nostalgia:

Tom, you need a setup like this.

Those power generators were fun to blow up, the screen blacks out and restores after you blow each one. Little touches like that makes the game enjoyable.

and the level design is good - you can't just storm in, a lot of fun.

Hiding in the bushes
I played the demo to death back in mid 90's, seeing that intro still gave me goosebumps. Few years ago I finished the full game. Still fun to play. Recently I fired up No Regret and plan to finish it too. Those games have one of the best soundtracks - Andrew Sega did great job on it.

Recently I was wondering what remake of really old game I would like to see - and thought of Crusader, but in FPS/RPG style. If done properly I believe it would be a blast to play!

I'd buy a remake of Crusader with modern controls in an instant.

with some higher res textures as well - but it is fun as it is.

I finished the first level : well designed and you need to plan what you are going to do or you won't survive. I was at the end of my health and ammo when I finished.

Retro-gaming can be fun. My most recent experience was replaying "Knights of the Old Republic". I would gladly pay $60 or more for a new version with updated current day graphics.

I bought Outcast

fully remastered, if you haven't ever played the original, is well worth buying, they retained the mechanics and style of when it was released some 20 years ago.

There were some fans working on a remake called Apeiron but they were hit by a C&D and forced to stop working on their port.

almost at the end of the game - about to start the last mission, thoroughly enjoyable.

not one bug or CTD - the controls are a bit quirky sometimes and there is one level where you need to shoot a wall to find a door to complete the mission, other than that, an excellent game play.

the actors you can feel are enjoying their parts and don't take it too seriously and it adds a lot to the fun.
