I had purchased virtual desktop ($15) from steam a while ago and had opentrack (freeware) already installed. VR and head tracking work like a charm. Not true 3D, but experience is close enough.

Very interesting, may I ask why you did buy Steam Virtual desktop and not Vorpx.
https://www.vorpx.com/ I would like to hop on the new WoFF expansion pack, only I’m addicted to VR.

Hi @dutch. I also own vorpX, and sometimes swap between both.

VorpX has better scale. Virtual desktop seems too zoomed in no matter what curve/distance setting I use.

However. Virtual Desktop has much better FPS and no stuttering just like viewing on my monitor. So. That never breaks immersion like the occasional stutters in vorpx.

The disadvantage of using free track over vorpx native tracking is I can't get head roll to work (i.e. looking behind something)

But what if you just had a small budget that only allows buying one software package , what would be your choice VorpX or virtueldesktop/freetrack. Keep in your mind only for WoFF-PE and maybe RoF.
I do have an
i7-9700k
GTX1080 that will be upgraded to an RTX2080super
3600Mhz cl16 2x8Gb RAM
all on SSD/m2
Odyssey plus VR

That is a very difficult question to answer because it's not just the hardware. Your OS, drivers, other programs, etc.. can play a role.

However, I do recommend you can purchase virtual desktop on steam since they have a return policy. If you don't like it, just return it to steam for a full refund.

Searching the internet on settings for virtual desktop in games will show many hits. Check out youtube as well to see how people do it. If you can get virtual desktop to work where you like it, then it's the cheaper option and you're done. It requires a bit of tweaking settings, test, and repeat. Otherwise, vorpX is $40 and would be an expensive mistake if you don't like it since there is no trial or returns.

Note that I use free track with vorpX. I disable the native vorpX native tracking because it's wonky sometimes with WOFF and does not track.

I will check it all, I know on black friday VorpX could be on sale and by selecting an TAX free country even cheaper. For Steam VD is already in check box for a sale.
BTW is Free track the needed software or can I use also like TrackIR5.
