In September of this year I posted about the game crashing to the desktop at the point where the OBD logo starts to display.
At the time I eventually found the problem was caused by a M$ update. Uninstalling the update was the fix. In late October the M$ update was installed with no uninstall option
permitted by M$.
I haven't played the game since early October for various reasons and after checking here and seeing mention of the October WOTR patch/update
I installed the update and when I launched the game I ran into the exact same issue where the moment the OBD logo attempted to display I got the crash to desktop.
Long story short, by pure happenstance I ran across mention of MSI's afterburner causign this problem this evening while searching for the crash to desktop.
I've been running MSI afterburner for a long time so I closed it before starting WOTH and the game loaded normally. When I started
MSI afterburner again and tried launching WOTR it crashed to the desktop when the OBD logo started to display.
I use MSI afterburner to monitor GPU temps and frame rate in all of my shooter games ( CoD, Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint, etc.) and WOTR is the only game that won't work with MSI afterburner running in the background.
Could this be a conflict with the base game XP version OS coding and the MSI applet?
UPDATE: Further experimenting I found It's the MSI overlay displaying the FPS, GPU temp, etc. that causes the game to crash. If I turn off on screen display of the GPU temps, frame rate, etc. the game WILL run with MSI running
in the background.
