Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.

He sounds hopeful, but I think that we've reached the point of no return. The "dark side" as he calls it, generates too much money.

I always thought Al Gore invented the Internet

"You'll never take me alive" said he,
And his ghost may be heard if you pass by that billabong
"Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me?"

An interesting read. We are now in the Laissez-faire stage of the internet/WWW which just like that stage of capitalism gives huge amounts of growth but with it comes malice and corruption. The trick will be to more to a system which still encourages innovation and growth while mitigating the worst of the malice but not going overboard and stifling innovation and growth and putting all the malice and corruption with the powers who control.

This only applies to the liberal democracies/republics of course. There is NO laissez-faire internet in countries like China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, etc.
