Fully half the time I lose sight of my opponent anyway, when he goes low and I go high unless he catches fire or something, so I don’t see much of the “death ballet.”
You’re doing it right then*. Remember the advice drummed into all new RFC/RAF pilots: “_never_ever_ follow him down” (because to do so would be to sacrifice height, and thus render you vulnerable to any other Huns in the vicinity).
