I noticed this evening that in quick combat, the single Vickers on my Spad or Nieuport is very fast firing, with a rapid fire sound to go with the rate of fire. When I go into campaign and play, I have a higher quality sound and a slower rate of fire. Has anyone else noticed this? I have to imagine with the interrupter that the slower rate of fire (and the better sound quality) is correct (?). Is there some setting I missed that gives rapid fire guns in QC but not in campaign?

I'm wondering if the date in your campaign flight and the QC flight are the same. I believe the sim models improvements to the Vickers gun that were made in 1917, improvements which boosted the rate of fire significantly. The main factor was the adoption of the Hazleton attachment, a choke and spring arrangement that sped up the return of the breech after blowback. Another was the adoption of the Prideaux disintegrating link in place of canvas belts.

I don't believe it's that - I tried on both a 1916 and a 1917 campaign with both campaign and QC and the result was not different (QC gun fires very rapidly, campaign is slower). That is, unless QC automatically always incorporates the rate fire improvement.

In Campaign it depends on the date you are flying. Constantinesco gear, muzzle booster etc. In QC it depends on the AC itself, when it was flown mostly, no matter at what date your pilot is, you are using for QC. So eindeckers will have slower rate than albatros dva's.

Creaghorn, I think Mike means the same plane. Take for example Strutter or Pup in October or November 1916 and shoot the gun in campaign. Now take the same plane to QC and the gun will shoot at a higher rate. I’ve always assumed the one in QC is already upgraded with all the bells and whistles and muzzles and interrupter gears.

Ah, I see. It's an interesting and detailed bit to simulate in the campaign, and I really like that attention to detail in the game.

To be honest, I had not paid it much mind but the other night I went straight from campaign to QC to fly a quick second mission before bed, and that's when I finally noticed it. I guess the QC aircraft is fully upgraded(?). I was just concerned I had some kind of reduced realism setting in QC that I was unaware of. But now I know it's supposed to be that way. I like the new animated guns and sounds. I've been playing OFF since Phase 1 came out many years ago, and this Platinum Edition is the best yet.

There will be a message from the C.O. when the planes get the upgrade in campaign.
