As some of you know, a Tornado came through Dallas this past Sunday at 9:45pm
Well, actually it was NINE tornadoes. The biggest one was an EF-3 , which has 140+ MPH winds. It did the most damage. An estimated 2BILLION in Damage at this point.
* ZERO (0) people were killed in this storm. This is simply amazing, based on the amount of damage, the tornadoes hitting freeways, and most everyone at home at that time. * People immediately started helping. Reports from those that were on the freeway and had their cars tossed into the median/off the road were surprised that right after their car came to a stop, other drivers immediately ran to the damaged car. * Disaster Teams mobilized that night. The Texas Baptist Men, a fantastic organization that travels whereever they are needed in the Nation, started planning at 10:30pm as they heard the reports. By Sunrise on Monday, they had chainsaw crews on site getting areas cleared for EMT and Utililty crews. By noon they had Food trucks on site. * It looks like a Utility Truck Rodeo on the freeways. This morning I saw crews from Jacksonville FL, and South Carolina. I am amazed at how fast they come in an make it happen. Several sq miles of streets were completely devoid of power poles and transformers. As of this morning, ONCOR power says that only 6000 of the 150,000+ houses knocked out are still without power, and that will be halved by this afternoon. Tree Crews from out of State are right there with them, clearing a path. Outstanding.
Just thought y'all might want to hear some GOOD news for a change.

That's really great news to hear Bill. As an odd coincidence my wife was just in Dallas last week for a pharmacist convention so the tornadoes struck right after she flew back home. Similar lucky coincidence here. My buddy was in Dallas for five weeks (new aircraft training for his job) and flew home just days before the tornadoes hit.

Good news yes but maybe a glimpse of impending doom!? Quick story....a friend of mine is a climate change opponent and we are both truck drivers and the other day as we were heading out of our station we witnessed a thunder storm show worthy of the title! I counted 37 lightning strikes in about 5 minutes. My friend says "so what that is how lightning behaves" and I snapped.See,he is young while I am old and when I grew up in NYC area a lightning strike was something you told friends about later on that day.A single lightning strike was a "whoa did you see that?"! This was different though and it was lightning strike after lightning strike.
A month later I was driving to my first stop when it started to rain. What happened next I never experienced in my 50 yrs.The sky got dark at a normal pace but then suddenly the wind picked up to what felt like hurricane speeds. My truck felt like it was gonna tip over and I quickly headed for an overpass to seek shelter. It was a hurricane but it lasted for at most a minute and then subsided. This got me thinking that this will be the norm soon.Daily crazy deadly storms that appear out of nowhere and wreck havoc!

Good news yes but maybe a glimpse of impending doom!? ? Tornadoes like the ones that hit the Dallas area have been occurring in that region of North America for centuries if not longer. What is different NOW is that some of those areas are highly populated and have a lot of urbanization so there is a higher economic loss and loss of life potential.

That and the fact that the internet allows the news of such events to be spread more widely. Events like that happening before the advent of internet news would not have gotten such widespread attention.

Wolfstriked, what you think is abnormal is what we regularly experience with thunderstorms. We had one blow through my area the same night Dallas had it's tornadoes giving us 60-70 mph wind gusts and lightning was nonstop. I've lived here all my life and it's no different now than it was when I was a kid.

It's always great to hear news like that... living in FL, we typically see out of state utility vehicles annually here... I'm sure I look like some of "Jerry's Kids" waving to them as our vehicles pass. They're much appreciated!
