After my FE2d debacle I am not sure anymore what happens when you pick Squadron XX that was assigned Fe8's for example.Think someone mentioned you get the closest equivalent. Or Squadrons that arrive in France with the Big Ack - if the unit is in the game.
But based on the list of units shown in the Pilot Creation Screen if there are active units missing from the Western Front OOB it can't be too many - if all are used in the game. Sounds like a rainy day research project.

You can always run WOFF UE encyclopedia to see what aircraft any unit operates at given time and at what region. Encyclopedia reads data directly from WOFF UE (or PE), so, they are always up to date and synchronised with WOFF.

Thanks JJJ!

Being the naturally curious type I decided to check OBD squadron availability in-game vs history. Didn’t look at everything (it’s not raining that hard) but picked one aircraft - the Armstrong FK8.
According to the mighty internet the FK8 was used by five squadrons on the Western Front: 2, 8, 10, 35, and 82.
2, 8, 10 are in the game. 35 and 82 are not. The units that have the FK8 acquire them at different times along with the typical High Rank, Middle Rank, Low Rank determining who gets one in the Squadron.
Now, as long as the Squadron has any other aircraft assigned to it besides the FK8 you can join it but you’ll be flying a BE or RE. Once it is totally equipped with the FK8 you cannot, logically enough, as it’s not in the game.
So what happens to these squadrons in the Campaign once it becomes fully equipped with the FK8? I must assume they disappear and no longer assigned to campaign flights.

This is probably flamingly obvious to most but I had completely forgotten about it.
The answer: More aircraft OBD! smile

EDIT: Sources vary a little but the RAF in the second half of 1918 had 99 Squadrons in France. WOFF has 76 available.

I normally plan out my missions based on RFC communiques because that's the only resource I have available to me. I use JJJ's mission editor to assign waypoints to all squads by guessing for French/German, but use it for RFC missions.

I was curious to test WOFF PE default settings, ultra air activity and no 3rd party mods. I compared the missions in WOFF PE to the RFC communiques. I chose a random date of Sept. 17, 1917 and made a Lt. in RFC 40 sqn.

My first test with PE was a disappointment because all flights were cancelled from 17th to 19th, which didn't happen in real life. But I know it's hard to get the weather exact. So, I pushed on and flew a mission on the next available date, 20SEP1917.

I analyzed the "xml" mission file to compare it to the communique. 20SEP1917 was a day with a lot of flights and a lot of ammunition fired (28, 725 rounds). Overall, the missions were spot on which is more than I can ask for.

Looking closer at the "xml" mission file to see the type of mission each squad flew that day, it wasn't accurate. But that's what keeps me busy in JJJ's ME.... otherwise, I'd have nothing left to do!!

Wow. You use real RFC reports for a day and then use the ME to actually, as much as possible, make all RFC game units duplicate what their real life counterparts did for that day?
If I am understanding that correctly you are my hero sir. Nice!

And very cool the Campaign Engine did a good job of “duplicating history.”

Yeah, it takes a long time to plan one mission. Almost like the folks who enjoy researching and writing their stories/making videos in the DiD campaigns. I can't write very well like that, so I find my enjoyment with WOFF elsewhere.

Orbyx, where are you getting your information? I would love to try method

I got fired as the door man at a sperm bank.
Apparently it's in poor taste to tell leaving customers "Thanks for coming."

This website has a trove of information where you can download a bunch of combat reports and a portion of the communique. I also have the RFC communique book by Chaz Bowyer which is an abbreviated version. I'm sure there are many more online combat reports, but I haven't look for them.
