Nope.
That's ridiculous.

Wow, 150 GB is monstrous even by today's standards for PC games.

And even I remember when 10MB was outrageous.

I'm most looking forward to the mods that people come out with.

Thats how it goes, more and more space as games get bigger with better textures, higher resolution etc. Kind of like the old days of Crysis, Far Cry and World in Conflict. LOL
It will be interesting to see if 150 is just for the install process or actual drive space for the game. At least it’s a huge, open world game, not just some fps. Fine with me if games like this and the future Elder Scrolls need it, BUT, it better be worth it. They do have some added pressure to justify the real estate.
Needs a lot of memory too.
I hope mods are possible too, that could be huge for this.

That won't stop me, have plenty of space and just means I'll need to find something else to do while it's downloading. This is why we buy hard drives with capacity measured in terabytes smile

If the game world is like GTA5, then that install size will reflect tons of unique items, like buildings etc which are used in one area only and not instanced all over the map. Most games will instance buildings, but I think GTA5 has very few instanced buildings.

GTA V has a lot of objects cut from the game still there, pine trees, a bunch of animation for cats not seen in the game, i guess the rumor of buying pet was real, cos they are all domestic animations, and there is a pet store in the game, lots of buildings and 3d assets, and unique animation peds dont use

I remember taking DAYS to download the Grim Fandango demo. It would just stop or disconnect. Couldn't use the phone for the better part of a week due to that. LOL

RDR2 was the most time consuming PS4 game to install that I've ever had. If memory serves, it took a few hours just to install the game to the console using the install disk and I think it came to around 100+GB of data. I was surprised as I've never had a PS4 game take anywhere near that long to install. Most of them install within a few minutes and some I think allow you to even start the game while its still installing. RDR2 however took a long time and then after that, it was recommended that you download the day one patch which was monstrous. It took me with our internet connection all day and night to download that. I couldn't install it until the following day. So it took almost two days from the time I bought RDR2 in the store to be able to play it. I imagine the cinematic/movie-like aspects of the game take up a lot of space.

Speaking of patches, as far as I can tell, Rockstar still has not fixed a significant problem they introduced with a subsequent patch. One of the later patches disabled ambient occlusion making the game not look as good as it did when I first started playing. I don't understand why they haven't addressed that yet. I imagine PC users won't have that problem as they are likely to have a whole slew of graphics options available to tweak.

My computer has only 450 GB of hard drive space total, although by the time RDR 2 is debugged and has a decent mod scene, I'll have a new gaming rig.

Must be that open world COD experience with maps the size of a Far Cry game.
Yeah. Right.

...although that would be pretty good, but I guess that's the new GR game. I wonder how much that one needs?

edit: a PALTRY 42GB! Must suck! What is this, 2015? Geez!

It’s stuff like this that scares ISP’s and pushes them towards implementing data caps. biggrin

^ But then more games might, like the new flight simulator, rely on streaming data. Which I personally really dislike, obviously, because I like the "own it" aspect of buying a title.

I was going to hold out for the steam version but from what I hear steam wont have any preorder bonuses and it will still be linked to the R* launcher like how ubisoft launches uplay on steam. So there doesnt appear to be any real benefit to getting it on steam.

Nov 5th is coming fast.

So how long would RDR 2 take to download on a 1980s 2400 bps modem?

About 15.85 years.

The more you know...

Great. My company sent out an update on acceptable use of the IT equipment. Now I officially can't download stuff anymore trough our fat pipes...

Two days until release. I bought it on R* launcher for the free version upgrade and preorder bonus. Not super happy about not getting it on steam but it is what it is at this point.

I own it on console and i've been trying to play it a bit on console but I just cant get into it. I want to play it on my computer with a mouse / keyboard and a wider FoV. Also, I dont want to pay for MP... which I really really enjoyed RDRO for the month I had a free game pass but Im not going to pay for online ever again if I can help it.

5th cant get here soon enough.

I imagine the combat mechanic controls are going to be significantly better with a mouse and keyboard. Even with the fairly unusual(for a console game)amount of sensitivity options in the PS4 version I never found a truly satisfactory balance which is something I don't understand. The PS4 has other shooters that tend to have tighter controls. I had to rely on Dead Eye a lot but that's always been a fun mechanic. What I can't see the mouse and keyboard being conducive to though is for everything else in the game which is really designed around slower, methodical analogue control of character movement especially horse riding.

Although I always found it kind of hard to run at a jog if memory serves because of how they designed the controls. Even still though the game has great analogue sensitivity so that you can basically move from really micro speeds on up to your jog and then sprint. I have a feeling mouse and keyboard might help with that however it may miss out on the finer analogue movements for the "in between" moving into and out of the different speeds. Maybe it'll do just fine with horses too because they are animated by a series of different gates. Except for perhaps missing out on some of the more finer analogue movements which may not even be missed, I have a feeling the game will feel and control much better on a pc. However the game is designed around a controller though which would be hard for me to not use on something like this. My hope is that someone could mod better sensitivities and accelerations into the game's controller configuration.

Its a great game especially for someone who loves story, character studies and a world that was built for taking your time and living in. I already miss playing it but I did about everything you can do in it and I'm not interested in mp. For a game like this I honestly need about three years in between plays for a second play through to feel fresh again. I'm still hoping that they come out with a true story expansion as well as bring the first game to PC.
