Trying to open a path to Bastone, The CCR of 4th Armor Div. got Spanked.
I led down a forest road with 2 105 Sherman Tanks + the Recon Plat. 5 , 1/2 Tracks with 8 Infantry ea. In addition to 2 Jeeps with 4 men. I used 37th Tank Bn's A company's 2 Plat 's 10 M4A1's to Flank and head into a small farm area. Trailing was 53rd Infantry's Recon Plat as support. We ran into an Est 3 companies from the 26th Volks Grenadier Div. Dug in up ahead and close in the forest as the road narrows. Est at 3 Stugs and at least 2 AT guns Misc MG and maybe 4 Mortars in support. Enemy Losses : 2 Stug's by the Shermans + 1 Volkswagen, 55 Inf KIA 2 wnd, U.S. Losses : 37 KIA Inf, 20 wnd, 1 missing. 1 76 MM Sherman Disabled. 4 Sherman 75mm Destroyed crews ? 2 Jeeps, 2 1/2 tracks + 1 1/2 track disabled. All in all, a bad day.
Nice! I really wish GT:OS did NW European ops to something like the same extent as CM. Not only are the visuals, effects and animations mostly much better, but whereas (IMHO) CM simulates wargaming, GT:OS simulates war - exercising 'command and control' over virtual platoon to company military units, rather than moving virtual miniatures around on a small battle area. CM has NW Europe pretty well sown up.
