During installation of WOFF PE, I encountered a surprising and incredibly frustrating problem, apparently inflicted by a recent Win 10 update.

All of my files are now locked to “read only”, so that I no longer have the ability to manage my own disk drives! Has anyone else encountered this issue, does anyone know of a solution?

If I may, that seems fairly unlikely, even for the POS that Windows 10 has become. Among other things, as bad as Windows might be, I have difficulty imagining that the OS would do such a thing, because it's almost certainly going to cause the overwhelming majority of applications to have issue (when they can't save to their own config files, or what have you). This would extend way, way beyond WOFF, and as I said would probably affect most (all?) of the software on a computer.

MInd you, I'd freely admit that with Windows (especially 10) anything is possible...

Can you elaborate? (For example, what makes it apparent to you it has anything to do with a Windows Update?)

Clues implying Win 10 to blame are a) internet searches reveal that many people encountered similar issues with Win10 2-3 years ago (some of the suggested solutions worked for some people but not others (the latter including me, now)), and b) everything worked fine until a major Win10 “upgrade” about a month ago, which inter alia messed up a lot of my desktop settings. I didn’t spot the “read only” bug until now. Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to affect file writing by programs, such as game saves or indeed the WOFF PE upgrade.
