OH it's a civilian flight sim. Yawn.
I can understand that sentiment, especially when playing combat flight sims like DCS for a long time.
However, being a real pilot, I take interest in this because there are days when I simply can't get out to fly due to weather or whatever else and with a civilian flight sim, I can still at least practice techniques or good in-cockpit habits, and especially instrument procedures such as approaches, en route IFR cruise, DPs, STARs, etc etc. And I can do it anywhere in the world, not just in the Caucuses or Persian Gulf, or Vegas or Normandy. I can also add live weather which looks really great with Active Sky 2016.
Don't get me wrong, I love flying combat flight sims, but things like instrument approaches are somewhat limited if not by the lack of good instrument charts or in some cases even a shore ILS-capable aircraft (I'm looking at you, Navy aircraft! But I love you anyway!), or live weather, and even just the location is limited because these sims are meant for combat more than flying from point a to point b. That's why even though I fly ALOT of DCS, I still do fly quite a bit in FSX and besides, I can fly my F-14A/B/D and F/A-18E in FSX and have a little fun shooting stuff down there too (although limited).
Sometimes I just want to fly a Cessna or Tomcat into the ILS 9 approach to Ohare in a snowy Chicago winter day and pat myself on the back for a great, safe approach...I can't do that at all in DCS.
