Is Raytheon's Pint-Sized Peregrine The Air-To-Air Missile The Pentagon Has Been Waiting For?

Quote
The company says that Peregrine will have at least as much reach as an AMRAAM and the maneuverability of a Sidewinder, but in a package just six feet long and weighing only 150 pounds. The AIM-120 is around 12 feet in length and tips the scales at around 345 pounds.

I like the idea, but as the article points out, the Cuda was also announced, but never really went anywhere, and without a specific contract, I think that's a possibility for this as well.

I also like the idea of giving stealth aircraft greater magazine capacity, but wonder if it is as easy as they say. I would think that there's more to fitting more missiles in a jet than physical size, and it would require more connectors, different mounts, etc.

I suspect that if you can figure out how to shrink a missile by the amount claimed here that figuring out how to add additional electrical, data, mechanical etc connections isn't an insurmountable obstacle.

Not insurmountable, just not as cheap and easy as the article makes it out, for existing aircraft, anyway. New builds would be easier, but I just think there may be more involved with retrofitting existing airframes.
