Another BSG reboot.

I'll say it right now: I'm 98% sure this won't be nearly as good as the Ron Moore adaptation. Good luck to them in finding a cast that is anywhere near as talented and compelling as the Ron Moore cast.

This is potentially promising:

We hear Esmail had been in touch with Moore, who blessed the idea of him taking on the franchise, because of Esmail’s passion for Moore’s version of the show.

I liked the Moore reboot, up until season 3, where I felt it kind of fell apart. Maybe Esmail can manage to have a little more structure and planning in his version.

I have to admit that I would be OK if it weren't quite as grim as the Moore version. I thought it worked well, but now it would feel a little like "cashing in" on that, and I think something with a little less brooding might be more fun to watch.

This comment reminded me of how many fans reacted to Stargate Universe when that show was first aired. Between the significantly darker tone compared to previous Stargate shows and the very Baltar-like character played by Robert Carlyle, it was impossible for many fans to not draw parallels to the Ron Moore BSG. In fact, it was seen as being quite a deliberate copycat.

I'm with you here. The second half of season 3 was a snoozer. The whole trial/legal drama/etc. really threw a wrench in the series' pacing.

From the creator:

BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because... why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!

I saw that quote from Esmail but it's still pretty vague. Will this new story take place within the universe of the original show or the RDM show? They are very different animals.

Or maybe this new show will totally ignore what happened in the original series AND the RDM reboot? Who knows.

"Staying true to the spirit of Battlestar" - Again, which one? They are fundamentally different.

A lot of the ideas for the reboot were small tidbits in the original series. Such as the possibilty of cylons looking human...

Personally, I'd just like the have Blood and Chrome given the green light it deserved.

Yup, I was very sorely disappointed when SyFy chose not to pick it up for a full series. The official statement from SyFy was that they "couldn't make the financial numbers work".
