I found another little trick inside of Wingy's trick:

When I went on my first Exploration Run into the Black, I signed up at EDSM, and also configured ED Market Connector to automatically upload my logs to EDSM.

I noticed that if you keep a browser open on your DASHBOARD page, it will:

- Mark notable planets in the system you are in and their SCAN reward. (I think this might be based on a setting you can make somewhere else to set minimums, but I honestly don't remember where that is.)
- Give you a running estimate of how much you have made in Exploration credits since the last docking.

For the first one, for example: I used Wingy's method to select Water Worlds and Earthlikes. Often, I would find listings on the EDSM Dashboard for addtional planets (e.g. Ammonia worlds, Metallic Bodies etc..) that also had a high scan payout. While the Earthlikes and Water Worlds might be 800K, the Metallics might be 4-500K which is not too shabby...especially when factoring in the Efficiency Bonus. Often they are very close by the Water Worlds and Earthlikes, so you can very much increase the take from a given system.
