I have the vanilla IL2 1946 4.14m version of the game: I'm trying to install this campaign:

However, after I install it suddenly I can't launch the game. The campaign looks interesting so I was wondering if there might be a 'work around'.

Many campaigns from earlier versions can't be played in 4.14.
Sorry can't help further. Only suggestion would be obtain a 'IL2 1946' disc and update to 4.08. Then that will give you the freedom for multiple installs that you could update to UP3 for online play on the SAS server, or the excellent and massive "B.A.T." that has over 2,000 aircraft!

I figured so I just uninstalled it (luckily it had such a feature) so I was able to get the game going again; ah well, mommy is getting me a new PC for Christmas so I might well reinstall and patch up to BAT level of usage. I hear staples has excellent download speeds.

Off topic a little but couldn't help but notice you somewhat nearby (I live just outside Modesto). If you are at all interested in flying online with some west coast guys, a group of us has been flying together online Tuesday nights around 8PM. Were using the most recent version and are of all skill levels and fly missions with respawn capability. If you're interested let me know, we'd love to have more pilots.
