Well, the detail level on your left wing, especially the realistic physical deformation, was much higher.

This is about as good as i could get the enamel wash on the Molders 109. I'm thinking it may have had a slight reaction with the clear coat or maybe i was too liberal when applying it. I mucked with it just enough to start taking bit of paint off in some areas so had to call it quits. I think (hope) the final matte clear will help it a lot to soften the whole thing down as gloss tends to darken colours whereas mattes lighten them. Sprayed some exhaust stain that i'm a bit iffy with, fingers crossed the matte clear helps that a bit as well. The weird marks under the cockpit are the result of me trying to be careful and holding it with a cloth, the enamel wash had obviously not cured so other than a sand and repaint i'm living with it. She also took a tumble off the table, busted one of the tail wings off, two flaps on the main wing and put a dent in the nose. Field repairs where quick and easy enough after a short burst of swearing. At this stage the whole thing feels a bit of a wreck but i'm holding out to see how well it comes together when completed.

Cockpit masking was fun as usual, the supplied mask makes a tedious job much easier. One down and one to go.

Now, the Trop and it's oil weathering, this was much better to work with and i'm happy with it's result thus far. It wiped off really nicely with a rag and cotton buds with a hint of white spirits and was just overall a whole smoother operation. The oil stayed on for a good couple of hours before i cleaned it up despite my head screaming at me to CLEAN IT UP NOW THE PAINT IS GETTING WRECKED! biggrin

That wing decal on the Trop is incredible. Mine always looked thick and plasticy. It was apparent that they were a decal. Yours looks really good.

Nice job.

Must finally be doing something right then!

After my mini panic about the Molders 109 it seems it will come good. I remember Goon saying that he had mixed views on some of his kits pre flat coat so i had a last look at it last night and thought well if Goon has worries with his kits then i might be ok.

I tried a new flat coat, Vallejos acrylic varnish, mix with water to thin and spray away. Tested on the tyres first and they came up good so into the 109. The difference was pleasing. Everything evened out nicely and she sits up for another 24 hours now and then i can stick on last of the fiddly bits.

One wing sprayed v the still glossed rest of the model.

Okay, now that is utterly awesome.

Your hand gives a bit of indication how small this kit is, and yet the amount of detail is so crazy. Not only the wing rivets, but also and especially the cockpit/seat area.

Really, really cool.

It's taken me just over a year to get to this point Colonel and i'm very happy with my progress smile I still have way too many panic moments though and seem to be pretty good at doing some silly things along the way lol.

Getting close on both. The canopy gave me a bit of trouble, it looked way to plasticy and toyish compared to the rest of the model after the initial spray. A couple of small (painfully so) pe details helped it out and then a repaint with some flat added plus an attempt at some weathering and chipping. It also needed some sanding as it wouldn't fit flush when closed but i think i got it beat in the end, for the Molders one anyway. The prop spinner looked bland when flatted so i redid it with a mix of gloss and flat at 50/50 and it looks much more the part. Still to add, aerial and rigging, slats to be flatted and glued on and some final minor touch ups. The Trop needs the canopy done, some cockpit chipping/detail work on the inner frame and backrest, slats, aerial and rigging, exhaust stain (less than the other one) and to be overall final coated to level it all out. Couple of pics before they do their full cat walk show biggrin

The uschi rigging line i have looks terrible on the Molders 109 so she is done until i get my hands on some finer line. Minor mishap just before i was taking photos, i noticed one of the aileron balancers was missing so i swept out the shed and then went through the pile of dust and dirt and came up lucky.

Into the box she goes after a dust down and blow off.

First up here is Krazis pic for an idea of the scale, no time for a manicure. Note the dent just behind the prop were she hit the ground last week, glad i had the prop off at the time.

[Linked Image]

The rest of the shots, i think the thing i am happiest with is how the wear on the leading edges of the wings came out, the canopy paint is the part i dislike the most but overall for the semi struggles i had with the enamel wash she looks pretty good. The pre shading seesm to have worked a lot better on this than the FW190A8 and V18 as it isn't so apparent and my clear painting is improving as well although i still find it a bit hit and miss.

And lastly a size comparison to the Hasegawa 190. The 109 is slightly delicate when compared.

Superb Ajay. The dent adds character. The hand photo really shows how small the model is and your modeling skill.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

I have a sudden urge to play Cliffs of Dover...

Super work. Maybe flatten the tires a bit? Otherwise it looks waaaay to real for such a small modell.

Thanks Krazi, i don't mind the dent either smile That scratch on the oil cooler cover is also a result of the fall.

I was going to flatten them colonel but between trying to get the wheel angle right and mucking around with other things i plumb forgot about it. The prop isn't glued in in the pics either which is why it's a bit off in some, i like to be able to move the spinner around for pics so tend to not glue them.

Ajay, have you thought of using piano wire for the antenna?

I always used stretched sprue for antennas and such. The length for the Bf109 in 1/48 is a bit higher than I attempted, but it might be possible with a suitable thickness and 'clean length'.
