Those of you with problems with the SF2 series and Windows 10 (of which I am included), there have been several suggestions that have helped some such as turning some of the graphic settings off of "unlimited" etc. This hasn't been my issue in particular - it would sometimes work, then sometimes not depending upon video driver updates, windows updates, etc. etc. However, through a lot of trial and error, testing, patching, and re-patching (there are a huge number of patches for the series over time!) - I believe I came across what was causing the Windows 10 issues for me (and perhaps for you (and for the series as a whole?).

The November 2011 patch introduces a fix/adjustment/alteration that causes the problem -- and every subsequent patch after that date causes issues. You should be fine up to and including the October 2011 patch.

This has seemed to cure all win10 issues for me, and perhaps this information will be helpful/valuable to you as well.

Running the July 2013 patch of SF2 here, on ver. 1809 of Win10 (Pro). I'm running mine with "Win7 compatibility mode" enabled and haven't noticed any problems (also recommended for FE2). The only other recommendation I have, specifically for SF2, is to toggle any settings that may be at "unlimited," to "high" - that is, if you are experiencing troubles/CTDs/etc. at unlimited settings.

~ For my various FM/AI/FPS/DM Mods. for First Eagles 2, WoFF, RoF & WoTR, and tips for FlightGear, recommended is to check over my CombatAce profile (https://combatace.com/profile/86760-vons/) and to click on the "About Me" tab while there. ~

While that normally was the case for me too, alas I have had problems the past 4-5 months or so - be it Windows10 changes or Nvidia driver updates or a combo of both :*( - just wasn't working out for me any more. I was about to completely walk away from it, but gave one last real concerted effort to try and get it stable when in the process I discovered (at least for me) that it was the Nov 2011 patch (and parts there-in) that were causing the problems. I am just going to stick with Oct 2011 versions as these have been very stable, allow "unlimited" settings across the board, and don't even require Win7 compatibility mode for me (runs innately fine with Win10). -- however, that does mean forsaking some of the more "recent" user made expansions (for example NATO Fighters 5) due to patch level. However, NATO Fighters 4+ is still amazing (and runs at that patch level) as does the SF2V Air & Ground War Expansion Pack v2.0 Gold. These two community packages were all I really need anyway smile - those and throw on Reshade with HDR set to 1.380 and add to it Menrva RealSKY mod and I am good to go! smile

Just thought I would post my patch analysis findings with Win10 in case it helps anyone else who may have been in my situation as well. smile

(P.S. - and yes, FE2 was pretty decent too - I had it as well, but it isn't going to be an easy feat getting it up and running like I had earlier as there wasn't a big override mod pack that had just about everything I wanted and I have a MASSIVE amount of individual additions and fiddling to get it to what I had before -- but it is a pretty decent product --- though I like WOFF PE a lot more wink ).
