Captain Al Haynes was at the controls of United 232 in 1989, a DC-10 which lost all hydraulic fluid and subsequently all flight controls. He managed to save 185 lives of the of 296 onboard despite an impossible situation. He continued to "fly" the aircraft all the way to impact despite zero control except for use of the 2 remaining engines. He never gave up. This accident, his and his crew's actions, continue to serve as the premier example of Crew Resource Management (CRM) for pilots.

An aviator right there, not just a mere pilot. The crew on that day did something that by all accounts shouldn’t have been possible!

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
