Why do people buy bottled water instead of buying 1 to 5 gal containers and filling these with water from their taps at home?
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Bottled water is more convenient than dipping from a bucket and is usually dirt cheap at the warehouse stores.

Bottled water makes great ice cubes. Am filling my freezer, than I transfer them to my coolers.
Dual purpose.

We used to fill up our 3 to 5 gallon water jugs from the grocery store machine (reverse osmosis water) but we found a better way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8CaB1n31iIhttps://www.berkeyfilters.comwe still keep a few jugs in the event of a hurricane although we've never lost running water because of a Hurricane (not saying it doesn't happen just that we've never had that come up and we grew up very near the Gulf Coast)

When tornado season comes and it looks like we're in the path, we take a big rubbermaid bin and fill it full of water in the bathtub. It's around 20 gallons or so, which can cover us for cleaning, flushing the toilet, etc. It even comes with a lid to keep the bugs, dust, etc. out.
We also have two five gallon water jugs to fill up for drinking and cooking.
The advantages of water bottles is that they're easy, so we keep some around as well.
[edit]
Bear in mind our city water has enough chlorine in it to pass muster for swimming pools! This is done due to the high levels of calcium carbonate as a way to keep the pipes from clogging with sediment.
So there's always two of those filter jugs next to the sink for cooking and making coffee.

Tap water is about 1.4 *cents* a gallon. Bottled water is the best scam going. Saving the plastic bottles by not using them is simply a win. I put these in at my kitchen sink, very cheaply: Cold water (only) faucet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074TTQQ3Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=13M in-line filter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01L0ADH3K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1That and a stainless insulated water bottle that goes everywhere with me. Cheap, tastes at least as good as store bought water, ice fits in my bottle, refillable any time. In case of hurricane, fill some collapsable water jugs or pitchers. Just a little time and trip to the hardware store for some adapters to connect to your existing cold water faucet line.

ya know.. I'm a water type engineer... namely anti legionella... and I've never heard of that... Well, that's what the water guy told me. He might have been jerking my chain, but the last water quality report they sent out had as much chlorine in it as is recommended for swimming pools.

You can also grab a couple of life straws pretty cheaply. They double great for a camping emergency kit and are sometimes on sale on Amazon.

I raid our goldfish pool with our camping water filter pump when the city water is too bad.
