Disclaimer: I've never played World of Warcraft. It may indeed be a great game, but is it worth this?

https://www.pcgamer.com/world-of-warcraft-game-director-responds-to-queue-complaints/

They recently re-released the Classic edition of WoW, and the servers cannot handle the demand. As a result, players stand in line for hours waiting to kill a NPC for example (and sometimes hours just to log in). Thousands of players, killing that unfortunate NPC over, and over and over. Kind of blew my mind that people could decide to spend time in this manner. Perhaps it's just a wave of nostalgia fueling the insanity enthusiasm. After a while some will tire of it and move back to regular WoW I guess. Assuming that regular, non-classic WoW is a thing?

Played WoW for years. Gave up after the Pandaria expansion was realeased. WoW players will understand. Started Classic a couple of days after it came out. It IS mostly a gamers nostalgia trip smile I expect that the queues you mention are on servers populated by a lot of new players.

When I logged in , I did a bit of looking and found a server with a medium low population and mostly older players. The queue thing does not exist , nor does the toxic game chat that plagues 'regular' WoW. I recreated my old toon and am having fun smile

Is that so? I read a few articles on it and one said that players are resorting to methods that apply a click automatically to keep their game from timing out due to inactivity while they wait in line. But perhaps it just takes a bit of familiarity to avoid the saturated servers?

I also didn't play the Pandaria expansion but wish i had at the time. I came back several years later to play it and really enjoyed it - it was unique in it's own way and had some interesting short stories connected to oriental culture and wisdom. Playing the original WoW would be great for new players to the game or for some old players who had friends they played with and got together to do it again but for many of us - it was an era of our lives that we'll always treasure but "we've moved on".

The initial servers are crammed full, espesially the Player vs Player servers.

I restarted on one which went up the second day after launch and it allows me to come into the game instantly. On the initial server I rolled up a char on there are 12-15,000 queues with like 4-5 hours wait times to get into the game.

Yes, this is on the PvP servers from what I've read.

Lines in a video game.

lol no

One of the many reasons I won't play a subscription-based game.

Played WoW, many years ago, for a few hours. A highly annoying player, who tried to keep me from accomplishing anything, kept me from ever coming back.

You really get hooked to this game easily and then the toxic players appear. Those kind of players have almost made me stop playing the game. I started hating it so much and that is the only reason I went for wow boost. I enjoyed playing and leveling up, but with that boost you can skip those players and when you are a higher level it is easier to deal with them. I remember a few times when higher levels would just come and kill me for no reason. I would never do that, just let others play normally, but I guess they think it must be funny.

I'm sure the queue will disappear because the new modes are usually in great demand the first few days after release. But as a real wow fan, it's not hard to wait a certain amount of time to try and complete a dungeon. Passing the dungeons, you can get a lot of valuable resources. Some dungeons can only be given on specific days, and when I don't have enough time to do so, I turn to Deleted . These guys can help you get through any dungeon in a short amount of time.

I had forgotten about this. Maybe folks who were in that original screenshot are just getting to the end of that line, three years later.

I played WOW a lot about 15 years ago, but it got old after a while. My son is still addicted to the game and buys every new expansion and plays it almost every night. He spent most of Sunday in those lines. I played Elder Scrolls Online for about three years but slowly stopped as it started to feel too much like work with constantly tweaking the skills, character class and gear to stay competitive in the larger trials and raids.
