I was thinking today about certain types of movies that have hardly been made by Hollywood and one of those types seems to be war films from the perspective of the enemy (from the US perspective). I was only able to think of a handful so please feel free to add to the list. Remember that this is only Hollywood-produced movies I’m talking about.

1. The Blue Max
2. Letters from Iwo Jima
3, Cross of Iron
4. The Beast of War

I’m not counting movies like “Tora,Tora,Tora” or “The Longest Day” since those included the points of view of multiple belligerent nations.

One of my favorites is a film from the 80's called "The Beast," starring some Russians in a tank. Great movie.

Don't try looking it up on IMDB, because for some reason they bury it.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094716/

(okay the actors aren't all Russians, but they're playing the role of Russians)

pps. Looks like Panzer already mentioned the film. ;P

One day the West will fall. But if the Liberty for which we fight is taken up by the world then the West will not have failed.

Hollywood has no obligation to create those movies. However, we should be open to watching those subjects from the film industries of the countries in question.

Great movie, everyone needs to see it but I will never watch it again. Horrific.

Great film though. One of Kubrick's best.

Yes, I'd say that one counts.

I hope I didn't come across as insinuating that Hollywood was somehow obligated to create movies like these but I am indeed curious to see what types of subject matter and perspectives Hollywood won't touch or rarely touch.

Waterloo 1970. One of my favourite movies.
Lion of the Desert 1981. Another good one.

Ok, I see the parameters mentioned in my original post are either being ignored or misunderstood. Just mention whatever war movie you want! neaner

Going off on tangents must be a common thing for old geezers like us who predominantly populate SimHQ. wink

We are becoming a Head Line reading society. What is in the article, doesn't matter.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.
