Established by FDR in 1939. Coincides with Orville Wright’s birthday.

Let us all celebrate the history and wonder of aviation.

Good way to put it. Brings to mind the poem, "High Flight".

As an homage to all those pranged up kites in WWI, the FAA and I went over the mangled hulk of my Nieuport in the hangar.

Dart, I’m not of the mind that you had a “Happy” Aviation Day. Must be hard to look at her after all the time and work you put into her. Then to see her all crumpled up - must be heart breaking. But you can find some satisfaction that you were following in the steps of those early fliers in actually building their flying machine.

Naw, it's an opportunity to rebuild her even better than she was before!

It's pretty mind blowing to think that in just over 100 years we went from having something like the Wright Bros. airplane to having a plane like the F-35! Now THAT is a revolutionary progression.

There were less than 66 years from Kitty Hawk to Tranquility Base.

Apollo 16 moonwalker Charlie Duke said his father could hardly believe that he had walked on the moon, but his young son thought it wasn't a big deal.

“Government has three primary functions. It should provide for military defense of the nation. It should enforce contracts between individuals. It should protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property. When government-- in pursuit of good intentions tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the cost comes in inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player.” - Milton Friedman

I for one am glad that one of the Wright Brothers lived long enough to see Chuck Yaeger bust the sound barrier.
