Cool vid, love that stuff Piper, I love the 335, congrats, and thanks for posting the pic. My very first teacher, when I was 10, had a 335. I was in awe of it. So beautiful, and played so effortlessly. I was so new to guitars, and this thing may as well have been from outer space. My guitar was a 1965 Fender Malibu acoustic, so that was my reference. It has a standard body with a Strat-style neck on it. Still have it actually. Anyway, looking at the 335 I noticed the inlays, and the tuners and the neck/body binding and I could see how well-made it was. Tone was great, and at that stage I knew acoustics sounded clean, and electrics sounded dirty. But yet here was something altogether different. An electric that was mellow and clean and loud. Mind blown A year or two later I bought a '76 Strat with grass cutting money that I had saved for three summers. It cost $350 and that was a lot of money to a 12 year old back then. I wanted a Gibson, but just no way I could afford one. It wasn't until I was 23 that I could finally afford one lol. Anyway, just a few memories that your 335 brought back. OG, here are my Gibsons if you're interested in seeing more. Shamelessly reposted from the preceeding page. But maybe folks are just hitting 'show latest post' and not seeing them The sunlight shows them well On the left is a Les Paul Studio Plus. I think at the time Gibson was calling this finish Desert Burst, but today Desert Burst looks different, much lighter in the center. The Plus designation is for the flame maple top (the striping). On the right is a Les Paul Classic in Honey Burst, which is made to resemble an old Cherry Burst LP that sat too long in the music store window. This guitar is a 1960 reissue of sorts, but with uncovered ceramic humbuckers instead of PAF-style ones. It has 'aged' inlays that have a sort of greenish hue to them. The Studio is my number one.

BTW, that studio plus...is that a '59 Claw????? Love the look!
It has a touch of that yes, assuming you're referring to Keith Richards' LP (which, I think, Joe Bonamassa owns now)? But not a reissue or tribute guitar. It's light for a Paul, very resonant. Stock pickups, which I've always kicked around replacing, but who plays guitar and doesn't consider this from time to time? It has a 498T and a 490R in there. Great tone clean through a Fender amp or dirty and crunchy through the Marshall. Endless sustain (seemingly). Good slide guitar too. I'm all for a guitar porn thread, I've lots to show

A question for any Les Paul players. You might notice that my LPs are top-wrapped. That means the strings are strung over the tailpiece instead of through it. This allows me to 'slam' the tailpiece (hard against the body), and results in a little slinkier string action as the break angle over the saddles is lessened. The slammed tailpiece might give better sustain, but I've never tested it, just going with what feels best. Who does the same with their LPs? Or I suppose any Gibson with a ABR-1 or Tune-O-Matic bridge.

I do not top-wrap, although it is certainly all the rage on some Les Paul forums. I've therefore never A-B'd it, so that might be a fun test!

If you do test it let me know your thoughts on the whole thing. I've been top-wrapping for so long now that I don't really remember how it was before lol. I'd say that top-wrapping makes the strings feel like they are a half a gauge lighter. I use .10s on my LPs and they feel lighter than that.
Some folks like it, some don't, just as you'd expect. Thanks for the reply RR.

Faber replacement parts: Faberguitars replacements The "My LesPaul" forum is a great site for info and know-how. Real nice folks there, I don´t stop by as much as I used to now days. Yeah, but do you top-wrap? LOL no, just with my girfriend! hehe. Seriously, I have plenty as is, and only worry about tone as much. The tail kit did improve my tone/sustain, that´s why I mentioned it.

Haha, yeah good point.
The Strats are all strung with hybrids, 9-46, LPs with 10-48 and the Tele has 11s. Not sure what's on the PRS, as it's been so long since I picked it up., but probably hybrid slinkys.

D´Addario 09 EXL120-3D (nickel wound, don´t like half-round) for my LP, been using them for quite along time. Personally I find 010 to heavy for LP type guitars, LP´s already have a thick sound to them, but that´s just me. For strat/tele types then yaeh I could go for 010 or higher. Martin Phosphor Bornze 012-054 for my acustic (Yamaha LL-6). Forgot what I got on my bass (Warwick), they last longer so easy to forget LOL.
Use to use GHS Boomers, which I remember were quite slinky.

Yeah Archie, they are works of art, in my view anyway. Gibson guitars feature a variety of things not found on many other guitars, particularly Fenders. I love Fenders too and am in no way putting them down. But things like body and neck binding, set necks, top caps and more all add to the expense. Even the finish. Most, if not all, Gibsons have a nitro-cellulose finish, which isn't very durable, but it smells really good I happen to have a Strat with nitro too, so it's not like it's exclusive to Gibsons. But they don't cut any corners. That's why I had to wait until I had an adult job to afford one haha.

Earlier this year I was saddened to see that David Gilmour was auctioning many of his guitars. I am a huge Gilmour fan, perhaps the most influential player for me. So to see him giving them up didn't seem right. Well, I hadn't heard the results of the sale, and never really looked. But today I did, and while searching came across this cool list of the most expensive guitars. Gilmour's Black Strat, that we've all seen and the whole world has heard, now tops this list, and by some margin. Some rich guy is very lucky today The auction was in June. World's Most Expensive Guitars I'd take any of those Strats, Gibsons and Martins

True. And especially Gilmour, who is so unique for me. Still, I'd feel better if these guitars were still with him. I am sure I am more upset by it than the man himself Longbow, any specifics? Aside from the rosewood fiasco, what do you think were the missteps? LB4LB, that's a great scene, one of my favorites. Look at all those awesome guitars. I own a Tele, but I've never really bonded with it. I shouldn't have bought it really, but I felt my collection wouldn't be complete without such an iconic guitar. The issue is the neck is just too beefy. So it's not the Tele per se, just the one I took home. A slimmer neck profile would be better for me. There have been a few comments about the scale length differences between guitars, and for myself, I prefer the shorter Gibson scale. I still love Stratocasters, but Gibsons feel better in this regard. After a bit it's a non-issue really, but when switching back and forth it's pretty evident.
