Rainbow Six got me into Tom Clancy’s books.
In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!

It wasn't one book in particular, but playing Sid Meyer's Gettysburg, and Antietam got me to go out and find books, websites, and documentaries on those. Playing Age of Sail and got to learn about sailing ships and eventually reading the Hornblower and Master and Commander books.
I can completely relate to this. Playing hundreds of hours of both Total War: Rome II and Attila got me really interested in Roman history so I started reading quite a few books and articles on the subject.

7 Years War: C. Clarks "Prussia"
This has been a largely neglected war when it comes to PC games. The only game I've played that comes close is Total War: Empire and that's only because it covers the era 1700-1800.

Based on Aegods American Civil War engine there is a game callied " Rise of Prussia" It's probably not a particularly easy era to cover, with changing alliances, big and small, many smaller principalities (as one of which Prussia started as well) also playing important roles. And it's "overshadowed" by the deeds of a certain little Frenchman soon after (or more precise Corsican before some French members get offended).

Yup. I seem to remember that 'Flight of the Intruder' (Spectrum HoloByte) came with the book of the same name. I read it numerous times.

It was tough. I much preferred the book to the game. The film was very good. I particularly enjoyed the Phantom $hitter
