Rummaging through Gig's of drivespace sometimes pays off, and my drives do have a lot of Gig's lol. Just want to let people know not to despair as there's way more where this came from:

Does that mean you are going to release them?
It would be great if you did smile

As usual you and the EAW community will be the first ones to know when I release something. No releases are imminent.

No releases imminent ? Now don’t be teasing us; some of us are sensitive. I cry easily.

That’s because I am very sensitive.

Merely a vocabulary misstep.

From Webster's Dictionary -

Imminent describes something that's about to happen, sometimes good and sometimes bad.

Eminent is a distinguished, grand person of high stature, soaring above the common man.

Hey, I didn't write.

Heck, even paranoids have enemies.

How did eminent even become part of this ?

Here's the converted tileset, can't think why anyone would be interested, it's incomplete for use in EAWPRO and not evern close to what I would call a worthy replacement for EAWPRO's stock terrain. I currently don't have the time to work on it, have other things I'm working on, sorry. I just wasted an hour on putting this together, thx.

No contribution is wasted.

I just wish I had the background, knowledge and time to do what you modders do.

I wouldn't advice any readers to use this tileset, in fact I strongly suggest they stay away from it. You can use it if you like but you already have it right? You've shown it's pictures and you have the knowledge and tools to do the conversion yourself. The conversion batch file for it is in your EAWPRO folder. I had to locate these tiles amongst terrabytes of stuff on disconnected harddrives, why push me into doing this? It's a total waste of my time and everyone elses too.

Then I’m stumped about why the thread.

Because Mr. Jelly specifically stated in his thread that the set is ONLY available for UAW, so I posted a screenshot that I have it too and specifically stated that a release was NOT IMMINENT. I think what that means is clear enough to anyone who reads it. Why did you think I had something to release after what I wrote?

“Just want to let people know not to despair as there's way more where this came from:” made me think there was more to come and something was being done with it.

Not a problem, but I just expected that the thread was promoting that something was being developed. I guess I read into it something that wasn’t there.

N.P. Ogg,

we all occasionaly fall victim to suggestion and misreading, now don't let it happen again, smile I'm trying very hard in my bestest English to not have these types of misunderstandings and any release threads I have will have the word RELEASE in it, anything which doesn't is just a teaser, as you obeserved correctly. That should keep you and me out of trouble (I hope).

A clever play on words.

Say them fast enough they sound the same but they have very different meanings.

It seemed inappropriate to me and other moderators I asked to look at it.

It seemed a snide shot. Where was the vocabulary misstep ? Who made it ?

Yes, they have very different meanings and to us it looked like you were making an insulting point.

Clever ? Maybe too clever.

It is only available for UAW160 because the textures are 24 bit BMP files, and I am not aware that any other versions of the exe other than 160 and earlier ones in the 1.28 series handle BMP files.
The "TER" files are all identical copies of a single 256x256 "TER" file. They are only read in our code to get the size of the matching BMP file, and are never used as textures unless a BMP file is missing.

The visual difference between a 24 bit tile and an 8 bit one is negligable, especially with tiles which have no detail on them whatsoever or created from a .JPG, it only slows down framerates. Even if those tiles were 512 x 512 pixels they wouldn't look much better and slow down framerates twice as much. They're just huge areas of green with nothing on it. When these tiles are created from a .JPG, like many terrain sets I've seen created from Google Maps, then it's totally useless to have them as 24 bit because a .JPG uses a simmilar compression as an 8 bit conversion. I can't even see the difference between my hand painted 24 bit 512 Harvest tiles and their 8 bit conversion, and those have 10 times more information on them then the shown set.

Here's two tiles in UHR, posted long ago by Col. Gibbon as a 24 bit .BMP on the left and my 8 bit conversion on the right. I don't think the difference justifies the drop in framerate with a 24 bit .BMP. For a fair comparison I didn't convert it into a .JPG, it wouldn't leave much of the colors intact. It would be very hard to find satelite photographs which weren't color optimised for use on the internet unless you'd taken those photographs yourself with a superb camera and I believe it isn't any different with Col. Gibbon's tile. If you'd want such detailed photographs from a commercial satelite company you'd better pay up or else you'll endup with what's shown here.
