I have not watched the movie but the essential feeling I got from reading multiple reviews by critics and fans is that the movie was mediocre but the music score was outstanding. The score was composed by Bear McCreary so I'm not surprised it was excellent.

The movie did indeed flop domestically but it did pretty well internationally.

My feeling is that in the US it's a case of audience fatigue with the franchise. This is now the fourth Godzilla movie including that horrible abomination in 1998 with Matthew Broderick.

Forgive me but what 'franchise fatigue'? There were 3 movies in 20 years-and actually 2 in the last 5. It ain't like MCU or Star Wars.

Anyway has anybody seen the vid?

As did I; I first saw Destroy All Monsters in the Cinema in 1969 so I have been a fanboi' for a LONG time. I also saw "-Vs Hedorah"; Vs-Gigan and Vs-Megalon as well as G-85, and The Beast From 20 thousand Fathoms remake in 1998--I've also seen all the other ones on TV during creature features or what not--Son of G; G's Revenge; Monster Zero; Ghidorah; G v the Sea Monster etc. I've seen GREAT movies and bad movies and in between movies. 2014 was pretty darned good even with the cutting away; THIS one...This one recreated some of the franchises great characters with it's mix of MoCap and CGI and I liked the hell out of it--it was like Rogue One--Fan Service to the Nth Degree. Good to see Ghidorah as we imagined him-- a planet destroying extinction event that just oozed menace.

Milk it since hell freezes over. There are worse films around in their umpteenth Hollwood kitsch iteration, from the primitive "Fast and Furious" BS to "Transformers 5743".

"Godzilla film not realistic enough", ah winkngrin

That's easy in this case. What happened with the film from 2014 is that the casual, mainstream audiences were interested enough in checking it out since it had been 16 years since the previous big budget Godzilla movie. KOTM came out only 5 years after the 2014 film so as a result only the more hardcore dedicated fans of the monster genre bothered to go see it. In other words, KOTM came out too soon.

You definitely seem to be a hardcore fan based on what you've posted so far so you are thus in the minority when compared to the overall mainstream, casual audience. My ultimate point is that if you want a big budget movie to be successful at the box office, it HAS to appeal to audiences beyond the hardcore niche.

I didn't see it because it was a Japanese monster movie made by Americans.

We can do so many things well, but this ain't one of them.

First I need to apologize if I came across as 'terse' ro rude.

But You ARE Right I am a fan of long standing. AND you're also right that the mainstream casual audience has no attraction to the film, much to my dismay; it's like Pacific Rim: Del Toro created the perfect love letter to the 'Tokusatsu' Genre he loved as a kid in D.F. and it was a great movie too. But the sadly it seems the US doesn't have a lot of Kaiju/Tokusatsu fans as opposed to Asia, so two rather well done films that were 'fan service' to the max didn't attract 'normals'. I did my best: my daughter & I saw the film 4 times: twice we dragged one of my daughter's friends to see it--at first they were kind of 'uninterested' but once the SHTF they loved it. The one person I could NOT convince to go was my wife--she simply didn't care...not even for "Fathers Day";
That being said,I should reserve my anger for the supposed 'fans' who whined and pouted about how the CGI generated film 'cut away' from the fights and they were going to withhold their $$ because it wasn't like the TOHO flicks were men in costumes bashed carboard and plaster cities right on camera--like those whiners couldn't understand the diff between well made CGI combined with Motion Capture rendered in a computer was HUGELY more expensive than suitmation.

In general, I liked it. It was exciting to see Monster Zero (King Ghidorah) fully realized.

We liked it. Would have been nice if they left the whole failed relationship issues out of it, that theme was just meh and has been done to death.

A funny comment i read somewhere was someone forced to go see Rocketman with his wife and the highlight of that movie was that in the quiet parts they could hear the epic roars of Godzilla in the cinema next door.

Ha! That's truly epic. I can't remember which movie I was watching at the time but I distinctly remember hearing the roars from the T-Rex from "Jurassic Park" which was playing in the theater screen right next to mine.
