Back in the day a high school friend and I used to drive from Ft Bragg NC to Biddeford ME, about 900 miles each way, on every 3 day weekend that one of us didn’t have duty. We’d leave right after COB formation and usually come rolling in around 0300 on the morning we had to be back at work. It was great to be young!

My longest drive was from Ft Sill Oklahoma to Biddeford ME, about 1850 miles the way I went. I left around 0300 and drove until just before midnight before pulling over for a few hours of sleep. I’d made it to the mountains of western PA, about 1200 miles. The next 650 miles took me 12 hours, mainly because of traffic and road construction in the NY/CT/MA area. When I got out of the army a few months later I took a different route that was 50 miles shorter, but it took longer because of a breakdown that had me sidelined for a day and a half. I was pulling a trailer so the trip would have taken longer regardless.

The last long drive I took was maybe 15 years ago, I went from my place in south-central NH to the very south of PA to pick up a 1-ton truck axle I got dirt cheap. About 1100 miles and 23 hours of nonstop driving. I haven’t done anything much over 8 hours since then.

When I was still a teen a friend and I drove from Daytona Beach, where we had been on vacation, to just south of Washington D.C. in one day/night. I don't recall the actual hours but it was quite a bit. We arrived home and set off a bunch of fireworks and then crashed for a day.

Can i be the one ups everyone in this thread regards bus trips?

For one christmas my old man bought me an open bus ticket for 30 days to go see all the relatives scattered around Australia. My first leg was the top of Australia, Darwin, to the direct bottom, Adelaide, with a diversion from Alice Springs to climb Ayers Rock. 3030 K plus the 900 k round trip to the rock.

Adelaide to Melbourne, then Sydney then back again is another 3200 K, then back to Darwin for a total of 7100 kilometres or 4400 miles.

Awesome journey when one is young, i was 16 then. Walkman, Def Lepards Hysteria album had just dropped, lots of young backpackers bussing around, touring by myself, adventure central. I did a 2500 k trip, 1550 miles, in my early twenties from Darwin to Townsville and swore i would never bus it again. That trip left me feeling like the walking dead which wasn't helped by soggy oil drenched bacon and crispy cold eggs waiting for us in the middle of the desert at the NT/QLD border.

Going on 58, this bus trip will be my first since age 21 on bus back from Denver to MSP. Not to worried about it, other then waiting for it to go.
Have my phone filled with all my music and can watch netflix on my Ipad Mini of Amazon Prime. Once I get the car going I will need to change
gears and make this part of trip the real adventure.

Hardest part of the bus trip will be being a passenger for once. Done all the driving for so long, that will be toughest for me to get past.

At least you aren't trying to do this in the middle of winter. Safe travels.

Back in the 90s, my wife's younger sister did the 'student thang' of driving a car for an individual coast to coast over there. Is this still a thing?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

LOL: because we had to get the cars radiator replaced on the way to Daytona. Got a speeding ticket in the process (95 in a 55 zone) and I told the officer that I was speeding because I wanted to build up the water pressure before the radiator failed as we had already put several packages of 'Stop Leak' into it. Pulled into Jacksonville with steam flowing from under the hood. Luckily there was a hotel across the street from the gas station and a very fine gentleman fixed it the very next morning. I think he charged us about $150 to recore the radiator. This would have been around 1978.

One of our SimHQ Military Monday members does the South Florida to Ottawa drive every year and believe me, none of us envy him for doing that drive!

Hope you have a good journey and not too much adventure wink

1000 mile trips are a regular for me going from one house in Belgium to my other one in Scotland, I do it a few times a year, sometimes between those trips we fly. It is starting to get a little more difficult, I noticed that when I was getting a bit tired after 1200miles of the 1600miles going to our holiday rental and ended up splitting the journey in 2.

But then again I love driving, and will drive anywhere just for the sheer hell of it. Now I have not driven the LS430 in a long time but it was a very nice car to drive, the CEO of the company I used to work for had one, he got a good deal on it when he bought it for himself and a Landcruiser Amazon VX for my company car.

Just now my wife and I are planning a short trip away for a few days and she wants to visit Prague, depending on the route it will be between 450miles and 600miles, we are looking at somewhere to break the journey as my wife really does not like the journey between places, at the moment we are looking at maybe Dresden as a stop off

That is great news. I can’t tell you how reliev3d I am that you didn’t have any real problems. Greatly relieved.

Thank you, going to need a couple days to decompress from it all. That bus trip alone. LOL.

Getting through Sturgis Bike week passing though Belle Fourche SD was an adventure in cops. They were everywhere and had some one pulled over on top.
