How best would you describe your accent? I just got through reading a fascinating article on how quickly distinctive accents developed in British North America during the 1600's and 1700's so I've had accents on my mind lately.
In my case, I honestly think my accent falls under "Generic American" if there is such a thing. It's not Southern, not Cajun, not New Yorker, not Bostonian, not MId-Western or any other well established accent.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
I've been told I have no accent at all, despite having grown up in the south. However, if I'm around a group of southerners, my southern accent will come out, and likewise, if I'm around someone from the northeast, an accent from that region will come out, too, as my Father was from there, along with many relatives. The whole thing is very natural and effortless, same as when I whip out my Irish accent, or many others that I have practiced over the years.
And thanks DBond, we all posted in the earlier thread, too.

Oh crap, you're right. That was only 4 months ago so I don't know how I forgot about that thread already.
edit: Well, look at it this way; this will give members a chance to respond who didn't participate during the first round.

I’d say you have a slight but noticeable Southern drawl. It’s certainly not Foghorn Leghorn level.

I would guess that mine is a pretty generic US accent. I grew up in Alaska and moved to California, so I have probably picked up some speech patterns, but I don't think I have an actual accent.
