It was really beautiful. Three distinct rainbows and if you focused you could make the faint color of a fourth. Wish I had gotten a picture when the had better arches, but the wife and I were in the moment. By the time I shook off the amazement and went and got my phone, the arches had lost a lot of their shape.

There is no such thing as a "triple rainbow" - what happened there was a double rainbow in the foreground and a single, but SEPARATE rainbow in the background (which indeed could have produced a secondary rainbow, so yeah you could have seen four).

Notice the arcs don't match with the background rainbow between the two "primaries"...

STILL AN AWESOME PICTURE AND SIGHT though. I've only seen this in man-made "spray" (lol that sounds bad!), not in the sky...

OG really did see something rare, and even had a picture to prove it (good enough here, no reason to question it...)

I don't think that anything I posted is suitable to take anything away from the original post and picture. I just found it interesting that Irish folk tales were more right than you would spontaneously believe. And it's rainbow related. No unicorns mentioned, or pixie dust.

Living near the coast in Florida we get some beautiful sky shows.

And flying today we saw a double rainbow.






Less than ideal weather for flying but it is actually more fun to fly in poor conditions where you have to actually use pilot skills. Had to work between the heavy rain columns and under the cloud base. But it was remarkably smooth.

Stay safe my friend, those little "in betweens" can close down real quick. Been there done that, and watched a passenger kiss the ground when we made it home.

Pilots today have much more instant radar data available compared to when I got caught in a Thunder Bumper Nightmare.

Be careful flying thru one of those "in betweens", just a little more darker and a nice roll to the edge of the cloud. Had my C-172 grabbed and slammed at least a few hundred feet sideways, and probably a 1,000 ft DOWN...THAT fast.

Got my attention.

The guy who taught me to fly called them "sucker holes".

I was a passenger back in 1980 from Townsville to Cairns in a DC-9 from memory. We hit a wind shear over Cairns and instantly dropped over 1,000 feet. The cabin was full of dust and debris and the stewardess floated up to the ceiling. Really scary. I hate air travel in general , just a flying coffin in which you are totally helpless.

That is impressive oldgrognard. Seems very rare. I have not seen it before.
