I am surprised there has been no thread yet with only 3 days left to go. Looks like a Frenchman win this year.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Between the significant activity decline on SimHQ and the relatively niche topic, I'm not surprised.

True PM. A Cdn rider, M Woods from Ottawa, is doing rather well for his 1st Tour, and with 2 broken ribs, so am watching more closely than usual.

I know the name of exactly ONE American Tour de France competitor. I don't think I need to say who it is. smile

The one who finally didn't win the Tour 7 times in a row, or the one who won it 3 times ?

The former. smile

Hey, at least I know a few past American Formula 1 drivers. That must count for something.

To be honest the only american race drivers I know are Andretti family and I don't remember their first name except Mario. different sports cultures I guess biggrin Simon Pagenaud won the most famous race in America and it was just a mention in the news, a bit more for sporting news but nothing compare to an hypothetical french win in F1 Monaco Grand Prix.

EDIT: Oh, and the American who won 3 Tour de France is Greg LeMond in the late 80's.

Now that you mentioned him, his name does sound familiar to me. It's ironic that he has a French last name huh?

Some trivia for you: Mario Andretti is the last US driver to win the Formula 1 championship.

A lot more people would be casually interested if the last stages into Paris were actually competition but so often it is already over and they just casually ride though to the end.

The last time I remember there being true excitement for the end of the race is 1989 and the format was different then as it was a time trial to end the race.

exciting stuff

It appears the vehicles are gas powered. Why are not the vehicles electric/battery powered?

There are quite a few vehicles involved. Are there sufficient charge stations available at all of the locations that they end up each day?

Major Taylor was probably the first American to race in Europe. I remember Jacques Boyer racing in the Tour. Then came Lemond, the 7-11 and Motorola teams then 'what's his name'!!!! lol It's fun to see the races. I used to road race 'back in the day' ('80s, '90s and '00s). I was the best 'pack fodder' ever! LOL
