my trusty 5 year old X-55 is showing its age.

it was sold by Mad katz still using its Saitek brand, alas, Saitek is no more nor is Mad Katz.

I gave the Logitech X-56 a try

all I can I say it is as expensive as the X-55 was but it is not the same and does not feel like the X-55.

I hope I can keep my X-55 a while longer, what choices do I have when the time comes ( sniff...) to replace it.

I recently bought a Thrustmaster T16000M HOTAS set.

I wasn't into paying them 600-700$ for a couple pieces of cheap electronics, pot metal and plastic for the warthog. So I went with the T16000 set which was a bit under $200 shipped.

I'm -very- happy with it so far. The spring is slightly heavy for my taste, but that is personal preference. The huge variety of buttons and hats on both throttle and stick have finally made flying properly in DCS a reality.

I also use it for Steel Beasts and I feel like it is going to improve my gunnery score as it is much easier to be precise with it than with my old stick. Just need to get used to the stiffer centering force.

I really like my T16000M. It feels much better and controllable than my old X-52.
The throttle sliders need maintenance, or mine does since it gets worked a lot in MWO, but it’s easy. The stick is excellent, controllable, not floppy or too tall.
The throttle and stick are seperate usb devices, so whatever you play needs to support that. The stick and throttle can be bought as a set or individually.

My last 2 joysticks were the Logitech 3D Extreme Pro. Both failed for the same reason (spiking on rudder axis) so I bought a T-16000M. Although my flying is limited nowadays, the Thrustmaster is a superior product in every way. I don't care about the lack of buttons,I'm happy using the keyboard for all controls not on an axis.

I use my G13 keypad for additional buttons. This type of compact gaming keypad is pretty cheap these days if you just want a quick button box for your additional controls.

I had the X55 and it only lasted 2 years before the throttle buttons started to fail. The stick still works though. But, I switched to the X56. Now there are two versions of the X56, the blue one which was the first released version, and now the grey one that was most recently released by Logitech (has the G logo on it). I got the latter. It works GREAT, much better than the X55. It even has soft action on the throttle, which the X55 did not and so you have more fine control of the throttle than you did on the X55.

https://www.reddit.com/r/HOTAS/comments/8ivu7l/here_are_some_differences_between_x56_blue_and/

Programming is about the same, but be aware that X55 programs do not work on X56. You have to manually transcribe the X55 commands to the X56. You even have to use different HUD software.

R.K Just looked at it and one reviewer said it isn't programmable...Is It ? my old nostromo n-52 programs just like a Saitek X-52 but if this can be programmed for macros like ctrl + m And assigning naturall single keys I might just grab one

I've had the Logitech version of the X-56 for a few months, now, I really like it. I've owned pretty much every HOTAS available for under $400. (Cnd)
Personally I found the ThrustmasterT1600M HOTAS to light, especially the slide Throttle. I debated adding weight to the bottom, because besides that, it is very good setup for the money. The hall sensors are very accurate and smooth on the stick.
I liked CH because of the trim wheels.
The X52, I did not like the stick Resistance. (there was not enough) The X-52 pro was better in that way, but I did not like that the Throttle had to connect to the stick via PS/2 conection. I found the connection flimsy.
I prefer both devices to have independent USB connections.

Keep in mind, these are just my opinions. But The Logitech x56 (gray) is my favorite device.
I did have to calibrate the twist rudder (had to search internet to find solution). But it has been find ever since. The throttle Resistance is very stiff at first, but improves over time.
Plus I hear Logitech are really standing behind this product's 2 year warranty. Going as far as asking customers to show a video of them cutting the wires of the devices, instead of returning the product via mail.

Sorry, I was just showing it for example, not a recommendation. I don't have that one. My Logitech G13 isn't sold anymore. It's fully programmable. It wasn't expensive new, surely there are others. I think Razer had a few, but can't confirm all buttons were programmable. Might find the G13 on ebay?

This is mine:

RE: weight of T16000m
The throttle is a little on the light side. It does have screw holes for mounting, as does the stick, if you're in a position to be able to do so.

Thanks RK I have two older Nostromo (Belkin) keypads given to me by a friend they are about identical to this..And a joy to program They are older but work well so if it ain't broke why fix it ?? It was just hard to find drivers because belkin doesn't support it for win 7 but the vista ones work fine..

I still use the Microsoft SIdewinder Force Feedback II with USB plug, but i fear that it will fail at some point..

Does the Thrustmaster T16000M have Force Feedback? Read some reviews but never mentioned?

No force feedback. I could be wrong, but I believe no currently produced products have FF.
I think the Logitech G940 was the last. I owned be of these as well. I found the force feedback was too strong.

I tried again the Blue X-56 today - the throttle would barely move and some of the keys looked rather cheap, the joystick was fine, but overall my X-55 feels more sturdy.

and the CH HOTAS ? they sell the joystick and throttle separately.

Correct, the last ForceFeedback joystick from traditional brands are the (failed commercially) G-940.

Actually are this "boutique" expensive base, that work basically in only FSX and XPlane.

You have to take the throttle apart and clean the sticky goop out of it for it to move properly.

that one was a brand new X-56 I tried in a shop, it was already branded as a Logitech which I forgot bought Madcatz, the throttle barely moved and when I adjusted the tension spring it did nothing to help it move, my X-55 moves smoothly the way it was when I bought it, which means that the X-56 would be like that or worse after a couple of years.

I cleaned my X-55 on the outside as the rubber was a bit sticky with a kind of glue in some parts, my guess is that the coating is slowly coming off, but once clean it looks OK again.
