It's E3. No need to get excited. Let's see what it looks like when released. Marginally better than Minecraft like most other titles. (hell no, I aint bitter)

the logical and likely path is for a game for casual players and with add ons bought directly from MS - a redo of their last try, P3D is now so far ahead that it would not make sense for them to do otherwise. It does look amazingly good.

Yeah, but let´s not forget that P3D is running a 20 year old graphics engine which mimics PBR decently at most, among other things. They have done alot of improvements, but it´s a 20 year old platform weather we like it or not. IF this new edition supports third party add-ons, then P3D will have it´s days on a count-down...
After all, it´s a Microsoft license, which means that if they do things right, the legacy will be again there own as a new standard. IF they don´t follow the 3rd party add-on tradition we are so used to, and just make up there own as Tom states, then they are most likely bound to fail in there quest. Just like Dovetail did...
Mind you, I love P3D, and with all the add-ons/money I invested, there´s hardly no way I will upgrade to a new sim any time soon!
Just my opinion, 3 cents worth

LM with P3D and XPlane have raised the bar a lot and MS would need quite a lot of effort to match their quality , but I hope that MS does not go the easy way and targets the entertainment side of flight sims with a lightweight game.

They already tried that with MS Flight so hopefully they learned there lesson.

No, not really...
Lockheed made/has a liciences agreement with Microsoft, in other words, Microsoft did not "sell" them or anybody the rights of there flight simulation engine (ESP). They simply made agreements for others to use there engine. Microsoft still holds the rights of ESP.
