Naval Action releases in <30 days.

I consider this the best Age of Sail naval simulator available currently. So I hope it is ok to post about it here. After all these years of early access I am very happy this one is finally being released.

When I say the best age of sail naval simulator available. I am of the opinion that it is not specifically a simulator but it is more complex than say, war thunder. If that gives a fair comparison. You do have to control the yards in a grouped but fairly realistic way. A little speedier than a real crew would be able to do it. But you do have control of the mainsail, foresail and jibs as well as the sails in between which iirc are bundled in with jib control. The spanker does what it wants iirc. It's been a while. Suffice to say the wind is modelled and does change even during battle I think. But it's not like the worlds weather is modelled properly and realistically.

I don't think we have anything for the age of sail like silent hunter. But it is open world based grindy game. All the ships are modelled off real ships. Which used to be considered sim like in it's own right back in the 90s.

I love the age of sail and thought others here may appreciate the heads up.

"Hello Captains

We are undergoing finalization of the last couple of patches and notices and are doing the stress testing of the game infrastructure to support a smooth launch of the game.

This means that release day is going to happen in June 2019 within 30 days from today.

This all will not happen without you. Thank you each and everyone for support, positive feedback and criticism that is making the game better and better every day.

More information will follow."

Best age of sail naval combat I've ever played. The way the wind and waves move the ships around is great.
It's also very pretty, with it's Caribbean setting, and the smoke and gunfire effects are also great.

The game has an outrageous grind though. To make it even tougher the AI missions you take are next to impossible for new players since they'll usually put you up against two ships your size or bigger.

Travel times on the open world map can be really slow and take a while, which also turns a bunch of people off.

Overall I'm mixed about it. It's so slow and tedious, but when I finally get into a good scrap I have a ton of fun.

Logged in and played a bit last night-- hadn't been ingame since 2016 so a few changes had happened. Still looks gorgeous so I did some exploring while on the PvE server and enjoyed that (although the time compression does give my cutter that SBS Zodiac feel lol). PvP server gets a wipe this upcoming week, while the PvE server gets a partial wipe. A few players were discussing that in chat last evening. The wipes don't matter much to me as all my stuff was wiped during the later stages of the EA period but for those chaps who had built up their seafaring domains I can understand the grumbling.

Any way, off to sail some more, hope to see y'all soon smile

Kind regards,
Dave

I don't mind some of the changes that have been made as I'm actually enjoying NA more than I did when the early access period started- it was okay then but I'm getting more out of it now...if that makes any sense. One addition I really like is the addition of the chart protractor that works with your ships map icon for plotting a general course (it's not, nor should it be, a precise plot and you can easily drift off course at times). Small things and all that I guess. Picked up a lovely brig last evening and fitted it out, crewed it, sailed it this morning for a while. I know it will be wiped but whatevs. smile

Kind regards,
Dave

Hello Captains

War server (pvp) will be stopped tomorrow - Tuesday 11th of June somewhere after maintenance for the installation of the release patch and pre-release testing (additional infrastructure and instances added to support the release)
Peace server (pve) will continue normally until the launch.
Launch window is set for Thursday 13th of June to Friday 14th of June (but if we are able to test everything properly we might release on wednesday evening (kiev time).

Really enjoying the game again. Managed to cap an LGV yesterday after 1.5 hours real time, a few day/night cycles ingame, first cap of the release for me. AI is a overtuned, hopefully the devs will tweak a bit. smile
