So... if you evacuate the air from the structure, how much does it weigh? (Sorry not able to watch video now if this is answered there).
If the structure sans air was lighter than air, why not use it for airship cells? No gas, no hull to maintain.. well i guess it weighs more confused

It's simply nowhere near strong enough.

"Pound for pound" aerogel is extremely impressive with compressive force. Tensile and/or shear? Not so much.

Remove the air and it really is practically "nothing" at that point.

Interesting idea, but I guess you'd need a cover around the material to keep the air out, and that would put the weight back on.

because its very brittle, it can be made with other materials, but so far they haven't reached what you ask, though they are trying.
