It would do my head in if i was a hoarder. I've got to build them as i get them..although i would like to have the money to throw away like that! Some of the stashes people aqquire blow me away. There was one on Reddit Models a while back where a person inherited a stash, 3000 kits plus a storage unit with more...check it out

The funny thing to me about folks that have a huge collection of kits is that they're either A) folks that don't really build models, or B) the type of model builder that is so exacting and skilled that they take a very long time to put one together - and therefore will never have enough time to build them all.

[edit]

Unless, of course, they are "borrowing" from one kit to improve or make another.

Judging by the prices on some old, rare, unopened models on oldmodelkits.com there are apparently those who collect models with no intention of ever building them.

I have quite a few, and probably the biggest single reason is that they're easier to buy than they are to build.

That said, I have some that I want to do a really good job on, but my skills aren't that great, so I have "starter" kits that I want to work on to build my skills, then move on to the better, more expensive or rare kits. I also my multiples of the same ones so that if I start and screw it up, or learn something in the build process, I have another to do it again. I've found that kits come and go, and sometimes the one you want isn't available when you decide you'd like to pick it up, so I'll sometimes buy two when I know they're available.

It's not the governments job to protect you from crime. Whether that be you or property. The SCOTUS has even ruled that police are not duty bound to protect those that are not in their custody.

Ones personal security starts with....

You.

Know that when seconds count.....

The police are minutes away.

Can you explain why you posted this ? It seems completely disconnected from the rest of the thread.

Yes, this is true. I used to buy Auto World's model car catalog back in the late 1980s to early 1990s. I remember there was a short article piece in the front, sort of like an Editor's introduction. In one of those articles, the writer mentioned always buying 3 of every interesting or unique kit. One to build, one to trade, and one to save as investment.

i have 30 planes to kit up, only when i received my 20th ish box and opened to see the contents i realize....those wings span are longer than i had imagined in my head lol. so now they are safe from dust untill i can rearrange space in my room to build a new shrine for my model kits.

There are definitely people who only collect kits, and never build them. It's a whole separate hobby for some, and I can't criticise them for it. It's only like any other 'collecting' hobby. Unfortunately a couple I know are the most critical of other's skills online. Everything I have bought has been with the intention of building them. When it became clear they were never going to get to the front of the queue I sold them off.

cheers
Gareth
