I recently fired up ms cfs3 again flew a short quick action in a Me 109 G6 and remembered then, that there are many better flight games on my pc and closed it quite fast again...

BUT I also saw the completely unhistoric stall light in the cockpit again...

That made me think - obviously the csf3 engine does offer the possibility to link the aircraft being close to stalling to some kind of graphical effect...

Could this link maybe used to create automatic leading edge slats for the Me 109?

I like flighing the 109 in WOTR - especially with ChiefWH's FM Mod - but I really miss the slats...
From other sims I got used to check 3 or 9 o'clock (depending on the turn direction) to judge wether I there is still room to tighten the turn or if I should loosen it to fligh more energy efficient depending on the situation...
I do the same in WOTR but here it unfortunately is without sense smile

For me personally the slats are an important feature of the 109 and I would love to see them working in this game as well smile

And since I really hope that WOTR will actually progress further and more and more chapters will be added - there are tons of diffrent Messerschmitt fighters that could be added in the future - and most of them have slats - so if any solution for this could be found many upcomming axis planes would profit smile

Yep i agree Eisenfaust,it,d be great if the lads at OBD could incorporate the edge slats pal.

There is one version of the 109 that was created for CFS3 that includes leading edge slats that are manually activated in the 3D model using the D key (spoilers/dive brakes). I don't know it that aircraft's flight model reflected the performance that the slats added, but it seems like it would be possible to accomplish what you're suggesting.

Past discussion on this topic.

Cheers for the heads up Major..hopefully Pol or WM can do something in the future regarding the Slats.

If you use stall light both slats will come out, and also make no flight model difference.
One of the problems in real life when close to stalling in a turn, one wing slat would often pop out first due to that wing stalling first, then as the wing recovered and the slat popped in the other slat would come out as that wing was stalling - thus causing an oscillation, can't be done currently.

So the stall light mechanic only reacts to any part of stalling and could not be tied to "right wingtip about to stall"? A pity!

But I personally would prefer halfdone "as-close-as-possible" slats over none at all - but I completely understand if you are not willing to make such compromise...

However I'm a little surprised by the "currently" - does that mean that you are still digging deeper into the engine and still hope to find a solution?

Would be awesome!

I know it may seem a little neurotic - but I can't get rid of the strong feeling of WRONG when I look at the 109 wings during near-stall fights ^^

Correct, plus I think I already tried this, but just tried it again using the 'light' and it doesn't work, the slats don't move in a stall. I'll try again sometime.
Who knows what the future will bring but right now, that's how it is.

Good to hear you're still searchin' - a pity that the original cfs3 developers didn't find it important to give their two 109s or their 262 working leading edge slats - and that although cfs3 came out after IL2 and BoB2WoV that both had them...

But that's obviously not your fault smile

I find it astonishing anyway what you created from those barebones - so keep up the good work!

PS

I just read in csf 3 manual that for the 109 "Uneven slat deployment can make aiming difficult." (Machines of war, page 31)
They even put it in the manual - but not into the game...

I managed to get something to work partly using another idea I thought of just a few minutes ago, BUT there are 3 large problems - 1) if you lose a wing or wing tip you would still see the slats floating there, and 2) it's way too far from the pilot view and clips out of view. Also because of 1) you would also need to have the whole wing (or most of it) in the VC view too so other damage cant be shown then.
I'll mull on it but don't hold your breath.

Well you will die of asphyxiation doing that wink

I can't use that as even to get around some of those issues I'd have to totally rebuild the DM - not happening at this stage, plus it would still clip in and out of view so pretty useless.

Have you made any progress? Or were they dead ends as well?

Just curious smile

We looked at and It's possible - however the amount of work involved may not be worth it cost wise. The 109 would need some drastic changes to it's DM, and of course the new code.
We are working on WOFF at the moment though so keep holding your breath.

So it is possible? Great! I understand that a small Team has to choose their tasks wisely but you should consider that working slats will be an important feature of future aircraft like new 109 variants, 110s and maybe 262s. (At least I hope the game may expand to new phases one day!)

But sure I held my breath so long so I'll keep holding it further. You are doing a great job!

It is. In fact just for fun (!) we made them work yesterday. I just have to adapt the model somewhat...
