Rockwall does a "Music by the Lake" and the Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band is playing tomorrow. Too bad, I am now switching to the movie. This is awesomer!
Awesome. Can't see it tomorrow though. Please, for goodness sake, someone remember to bump this thread when it becomes available in other media formats!
I think I'll force the wife to watch Memphis Belle with me over the coming Memorial Day weekend...
Got to see it in one of the newest theaters with the fancy reclining seats. Theatre was about 1/3 full, more than I expected actually. I wondered, because I have not heard about this movie until OG posted it 3 days ago. They took the 70+ year old film, which was shot on a small, soundless hand camera, and turned it into glorius 4K quality restored film. At the end you see the Original and Restored films side by side and it is amazing what they did. The orginal film, even though it was color, looked like it was shot in sepia tones. The result of their efforts made the new images bright and crisp, and you could make out the small details. Wasn't any kind of footage that I haven't seen before, but I have never seen it look this good from actual footage of the war. Keep in mind, they didn't have any sound on the original film, so they had to recreate all the sounds by recording them and mixing them together.
HBO owns the rights, so it will show up there first.
They started the documentary with a newly-discovered Nazi Airwar Propaganda film This Nazi newsreel was shot in late '44, and demonstrated how the Luftwaffe was winning the war against the American Daylight Bombers. It mentioned that the Germans were forced to watch these 'newsreels' before they could watch a movie.
Bill it also was that way in our Country,,they played news reels before the show,,I'll admit not as heavily propagandized as the German ones just a lot more subtle Glad they went with cartoons when I was old enough to go to the show..hope it comes out on Amazon or something I can see at home,,don't do movie theathers

Here is one well known example among WWII buffs,
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”
It was very good. As Bill said, I’ve seen most of it before, but not in such great detail and color. Much better. They did a good amount of personal interviews and stories. Some of which wasn’t so good.
All in all I highly recommend it.
Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
Someday your life will flash in front of your eyes. Make sure it is worth watching.
