Amazing.

Wow...the original completely sucks compared to the reimagined one. It's actually pretty boring.

The old version was still fine with me. The reimagined version is basically Luke's battle with Vader in The Empire Strikes back redone with Obi Wan.

It's almost like the old was done with two old actors, and one wore a bulky costume with zero visibility.
Also, fight choreography has come along way since then.
I give the original a pass.

This one looks good, I guess. Never really cared for Jedi and lightsabers though. I was more of a blasters and spaceship fan.

Difference between 2 classically trained actors who were taught stage sword fighting based on fencing vs 20 plus years of fans making Jedi a religion and creating a fancy martial arts type style.

Mir bleibt die Spucke weg. Panzermeyer, this is one of those times when the expression "amazing" is not over-used. This made me go into the German language, so here is a translation:

The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

Ugh, that was horrible.

I enjoy the original fight because it is a duel of minds It is like a samruai duel which is over in the blink of an eye basically once Obi-wan decided to sacrifice himself. Before that it held economy of movement and showed true skills.
It utterly belittes his sacrifice by making it a drawn out duel.

I really hate the bouncy kung-fu #%&*$# fights of the prequels. Espesially the Yoda fight stunk donkeyballs.

I didn't say it quite so eloquently MadDog but we are definitely on the same page when it comes to the reimagined version.

Imagine if you will holding in your hand three feet of pure plasma, a confined stream of gas in liquid form that is hotter than The Sun. If it touches you, you burn. It will slice through anything, and can melt the thick blast doors made of metal when shoved into it into molten goo (Episode I, also the Expanded Universe). It will cut off limbs effortlessly, and the shock of it will kill nearly instantly if one is impaled nearly anywhere.

Are you going to start flipping all around and swinging with abandon, or are you going to be very cautious, probing with it, looking for a moment to get that one strike (which is all it will take to serious injure or kill your opponent), all the while being very defensive?

The Darth Vader/Obiwan fight is probably the most realistic of all the light saber duels.

The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events.

I think the guys at RedLetterMedia sum up lightsaber fights well:

The technology in the Star Wars universe can’t bear that much scrutiny because SW falls under the “ fantasy” category much more than it does the “science fiction” category. There have been some pretty interesting analyses done by super fans which have brought up details that George Lucas never bothered to consider from the beginning. I don’t blame Lucas at all for that of course since he envisioned SW to be in the same vein as the 1930’s Flash Gordon serials.

The Red Letter Media analysis makes some good points, but they also miss some too, I think. For the Anakin/Obiwan fight at the end of Episode III, we all knew what would end up happening, so that depth wasn't really necessary, and since we knew the outcome, and expected it to be a difficult fight, I think the effects and length of it were more about meeting expectations people had for a long time than revealing anything new about the characters.

Also, I think that Jedi had been made out to be bad-asses, so showing the fighting in Episode 1, when they were at their height, seemed appropriate, and again, I think it meets people's expectations.

There are lots of things wrong with the Star Wars movies, but I don't really feel those fight scenes were among them.
