Currently reading Tin Can Titans: The Heroic Men and Ships of World War II's Most Decorated Navy Destroyer Squadron

It covers the stories of the destroyers of Destroyer Squadron 21 (DesRon 21) in the Pacific in WWII, even before the formation of the squadron. Guadalcanal, The Slot, New Georgia, New Gunina, Leyte, Manila, Corregidor, Lingayen Gulf, Iwo Jima, Okinawa and finally the first ships into Tokyo Bay.

The hardships these men faced, especially in late 1942 around Guadalcanal and up and down the Slot endlessly with time only to refuel and rearm, grabbing sleep/food when they could, is amazing.

Highly recommend.
