I TOTALLY forgot how I did it and now I'm having the same problem with the Zero defending Rabaul campaign...I THINK I went into the IL2 campaign folder, found the 'original' Rabaul folder and 'unzipped it' again into the IJA folder; but I am not sure so...
If YOU got suggestions for installing the Zero mission, I'm all ears.

Hornets nest (A6M3): http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=5456 I was able to get it to show in the loading screen (see image). The way this download is packaged makes it a little more difficult than the ones with an auto installer. You are going to have to cut and paste the files into the correct game folders since unzipping it is not going to work.
There are three folders, one image, and one text file in the Rabaul folder.
A6M3 (Folder)
A6M5 (Folder)
IN (Folder)
Hornet nest cover.jpg (Image)
readme.txt (Text readme)
First thing lets get the campaign in the correct folder
Unzip the Rabaulb.zip download onto your desktop or some other place easy for you to find
Open the IN folder
Copy the Reisen_over_Rabaul folder that is in the IN folder from the download into your games IN folder (Missions\Campaign\IN\Reisen_over_Rabaul)
This puts the campaign in the Japanese Navy (IJN) campaign section. Before we add the skins you may want to check to make sure the campaign is showing in your IJN campaign loading screen.
Now we need to add the skins.
Open the A6M3 folder in the download on your desktop
Copy the skins in the A6M3 folder on your desktop into the games A6M3 folder (PaintSchemes\Skins\A6M3)
repeat for the A6M5 folder (PaintSchemes\Skins\A6M5)
The skins are now in the correct location and should show during game play.
wheels ..Followed the instructions to the letter,,They are very good,,,The campaign showed up but no map in the briefing screen and when starting got some blue skies and a few spotty trees..Tried it both in a BAT install and a 4.12 with modact 5.3 install.. But rechecked the download and see it's for 4.13..So I guess I'll have to pass on that ..Got too many IL-2 variants installed now,,Thanks for the help
The reason you aren't seeing the briefing is because you are using a modded install instead of a stock version of the game, which could have been worked around if you had a modded version based on v4.13. Imo, The possibility that there are probably objects or planes in the mission that are not available in your modded installs is causing the other problem.
This particular campaign as you mention is for v4.13m but the briefing issue can rear its ugly head even when the campaign is made for a version below 4.12.2 which is what most mods are based on now. To get around that you can add an underscore ru to the .properties file and the briefings will show.
Thanks Wheels I think you are correct ,,I don't have a bare bones 4.13 install and have 5 IL-2 installs now ..i'll pass on this one and fly what I have ,,plenty of content there and I cam create stuff with DCG
