I retired in October and moved to Paris in late March. I kept my house in Louisiana. Oh wow. Now that's a big change! I hope it's worked out well for you so far.

To all my Yankee friends...Alabama is every bad thing you heard about and worse, with nothing but gun toting rednecks, a scarcity of indoor plumbing, poor dental hygiene, etc.
You should definitely retire to anywhere but here.

If I ever decided to move, I think I would like to try the Reno, Nevada area. I think that climate would probably help with my aches and pains.

You should definitely retire to anywhere but here. South Carolina is worse, look elsewhere. Florida maybe....
“Government has three primary functions. It should provide for military defense of the nation. It should enforce contracts between individuals. It should protect citizens from crimes against themselves or their property. When government-- in pursuit of good intentions tries to rearrange the economy, legislate morality, or help special interests, the cost comes in inefficiency, lack of motivation, and loss of freedom. Government should be a referee, not an active player.” - Milton Friedman
